Lighting on your vehicle is more important than we give it credit for. Back when vehicles first hit the market we knew even then how important a proper lighting system was. We even went as far as to put carbide lamps where our headlights now sit and oil lamps in the rear on the Model T. Yeah, it was serious. Obviously, as ingenious as that idea was, it became impractical with the further application of electrical systems and light bulbs. Today, our car lights are some of the most important pieces of machinery included in our vehicles. Sure, we like to accessorize this auto part with flashy colors and different styles, but that doesn’t diminish its important purpose. Without the lights on and in our vehicles, we’d truly be flying blind in the night. If you’ve ever attempted to pull that maneuver fromĀ Batman Begins where Batman turns the Batmobile’s lights off to hide, you know what we’re talking about.

Today, at Toyota of Clermont, we’re going over the importance of car lights and a few quick facts to make sure you know how to take care of them and how to avoid getting a citation when they’re not working. Let’s dive in!

The Big Deal with Clermont Car Lights

The lights on your vehicle have very humble beginnings as lamps that used actual flames. With how quickly our vehicles can go today, and the fact that we have better electrical infrastructure and technology, it would impractical to continue using that system. Our vehicle lighting system has become so sophisticated that we even have various lights that serve different purposes.

Headlights

These Clermont car lights sit about halfway down horizontally on your front bumper and illuminate your way forward.

High Beams/Brights

To help enhance your way forward, use your high beams. These bulbs shine incredibly bright and further enhance your viewing distance and horizontal range. Because they’re so bright, they’re dangerous to use around other drivers continuously. But, they’re often used as a helpful signal to other drivers.

Taillights/Brake Lights

This system of lights in the rear helps drivers behind you know that you’re there and that you’re applying the brakes. They shine a continuous red at night and then become brighter when the brakes are applied. You can also include the lights that illuminate your license plate in this category.

Turn Signals

A hardly used but absolutely important set of lights. Turn signals indicate which way you plan to turn to allow other drivers ample time to reduce their speed. This Clermont car light shines in the front and rear of the vehicle.

Accessory Lights

These types of Clermont car lights aren’t included on every vehicle, but they can be helpful and stylish if you have them installed. This includes lights like fog lamps, daytime running lights, and so on. They’re not legally required for you to have.

Interior Lighting

Your vehicle will most definitely have interior car lights to help you find your way in the dark. These lights are typically in the leg area and above your head on the headliner.

While there are more lights on your vehicle, we’ll cap it off with those major categories.

Maintaining Your Clermont Car Lights

Your car lights, while important, can also create quite a headache for you when they stop working. Clermont vehicle lighting is legally required for safe driving and failing to preserve operation of them can land you in the proverbial hot seat with a citation. The best course of action to prevent this from happening is to check your lights every so often to make sure they’re working. If you notice one or a few of the bulbs have burned out, don’t panic! Replacing light bulbs on your vehicle can actually be pretty easy, depending on the model you drive. Research which type of bulb you need and a replacement strategy and get to work. It should only take a few minutes to complete and doesn’t require many tools to get the job done.
