Big news in the world of electric vehicles – Toyota recently announced in a a Battery EV Strategies meeting that two new electric Toyota concepts were in the works. Get ready to meet the all-new Toyota Tacoma EV and Compact Cruiser EV.
What are the new Toyota Tacoma EV and Compact Cruiser EV?
The truck world is a pretty great place to be already; the new 2022 Toyota Tundra has started to arrive at dealerships across the country and brings with it a completely new design as well as brand-new hybrid technology under the hood. However, things just got a little sweeter with these two new concepts. We all know that To
yota has pledged to put more hybrid and EV vehicles in its lineup so it can reduce its carbon footprint; in fact, by 2030, the company hopes to have at least half of its vehicles available in green variations. That’s why while these concepts are just that – concepts – it doesn’t seem too farfetched to say that they could one day actually become production cars.
So what would they have to offer if they did actually go into prodiction? Here’s what our Clermont Toyota dealership was able to glean from the details that were released by Toyota.
The Clermont Toyota Tacoma is due for a refresh – we’re all very well aware of that. And it’s been suggested that 2023 is THE year for it and that a whole new generation of this much-loved truck will emerge, just like the Toyota Tundra in 2022 (remember, Toyota kicked the V8 engine in this car to the curb and replaced it with hybrid and turbocharged V6 options). Therefore, it stands to reason that the next generation of the Toyota Tacoma could very well offer an EV model. Plus, have you seen the concept? It looks very much like a Tacoma (although some are speculating that it could be a bit bigger in size, landing somewhere in between the current Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota Tundra). But honestly, if you swapped the grille for something a bit more tradition, you’d think you were looking at a Tacoma. And let’s not forget the performance benefits of an electric vehicle… instant torque and horsepower for majorly enhanced capabilities.
What about the Compact Cruiser EV? Looking at this concept Toyota takes us back to the early 2010s when the Toyota FJ Cruiser was still in production and life was good. It’s eerily reminiscent of that popular off-roading icon, although it also shares elements with the Toyota FT-4X concept that was released back in 2017. And here’s why we think this concept could become a real “thing”. First, the Toyota Land Cruiser was retired from the US market this year, leaving a hole in the off-roading lineup. Second, Toyota needs something to compete against the new Ford Bronco and this compact SUV would definitely fit the bill.
