Inferno Named akin to the Divine Comedy itself, Inferno was unique to the TRD trims of the 2015 - 2018 model years. This Clermont car paint color wasn't quite red and wasn't quite orange either. The Upcoming Chicago Auto Show The Chicago Auto Show is back and there are a slew of new Toyota models that are going to be showcased. Here are a few of the Clermont models we can expect to see at this year's show: 2022 Corolla Cross: Announced not too long ago, the Corolla Cross will be making a grand appearance in the windy city. This new take on the iconic and favorite Corolla formula sets itself apart by adopting a compact SUV bodystyle. It's built on Toyota's new high-strength TNGA-C platform and reps 169 horsepower coming from a 2.0-liter Dynamic Force engine. L, LE, and XLE trim grades will be available and will include a variety of different features. 2022 GR 86: A fan favorite Clermont new Toyota model is back and things are different. The new GR 86 has been redesigned with enhanced aerodynamics and handling in mind. Perfect balance has been struck in the front and rear of the new 86 and the engine's been made more powerful. Expect 228 horsepower under the hood and manual and automatic transmissions are available. 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro 3.0: This new model of Toyota Tacoma will include a more elevated experience (see what we did there?). But, seriously, the new Toyota truck will feature a 1.5-inch suspension lift in the front and 0.5-inch in the rear. There's also a new Electric Lime Metallic paint color that you'll be an instant fan of, guaranteed. Toyota's engineering team truly enjoys doing the unconventional. After all, this is the same team that put together a roaring internal combustion engine that burns hydrogen into a Corolla Hatchback. We're still scratching our heads at that one. Plus there's the COVID-19 vaccine distributing Toyota Land Cruiser, the Toyota Mega Cruiser, you get the idea. If a crazy idea hatched somewhere at Toyota, chances are the idea came to fruition in some way, shape, or form. The latest unconventional experiment on a car is a rally car constructed on the bones of a Toyota Prius and, well, you'll just have to read to believe! At Toyota of Clermont we're breaking down the details on this unique ride and how Toyota took a, what's perceived to be (wrongfully), mundane ride and turned it into a mudslinging professional. Unconventional? Yes. Totally Cool? Also Yes The Clermont Toyota Prius was designed to provide drivers with a cleaner driver that produces less emissions and gets impeccable fuel economy. That same idea from 1997 carries on today, but sometimes changing the formula can be fun. Anything you do with a Prius, other than making it a Prius, would be left field. But this? This is something truly special. Rally races are unique in that they're not technically circuit races. Drivers race from one point to another in specific "stages" using street-legal customized cars. Courses can be on private or public roads and can be on the actual road or in more of an off-roading type of setting. Other makes have popular models used in rallying, like Subaru, Audi, Ford, and so on. But, it's not often you see the oddly shaped Clermont Toyota Prius taking on this type of event. Here are some of the finer details surrounding this enigmatic ride: So far, the rally-ready Toyota Prius has competed in one event in an untimed exhibition class. Because it's built on a hybrid drivetrain it's difficult to classify. This means that the American Rally Association (ARA) has some work to do. To conserve on overall curb weight several adjustments were made to the interior and glass. By adjustments, we mean the interior was basically gutted entirely to make way for a roll cage and 2 racing seats. The vehicle glass is instead Plexiglass, again, to conserve on weight. This is also why there's no A/C system in the Toyota Prius rally car. To solve that issue? There's a large roof-mounted scoop up top that helps pull cold air into the cabin when driving. You can also bet that the dashboard has adopted a minimalistic look for this Clermont hatchback. Meaning there's hardly a dashboard at all. Obviously. building a rally-ready car with stock Toyota Prius parts wouldn't work. Luckily, the 2020 model is built on Toyota's TNGA platform, which is shared with several other models on the lineup. This makes swapping parts from other vehicles super simple. In a Frankenstein's monster type of fashion, this Clermont Toyota Prius borrows dampers from the RAV4 TRD, front and rear axles from the Camry, and springs from the TRD Avalon. Impressed? Here in Clermont we've been waiting for the new Toyota Tundra with bated breath. This elusive pickup truck is long overdue for an upgrade and the news surrounding it has been trickling in. Very. Slowly. Too. Slowly. But, we've come a long way since the leaked camo photos from a few months ago and now we have a lot more information to work with. Since the front end reveal of the iconic upcoming pickup, we've received confirmation of the engine name (and likely it's cylinder count) and more! Let's get started with the big bad under the hood, the engine! Is that a V6? Toyota has been pretty tight-lipped about the Clermont Toyota Tundra as of late. But, we did get a snapshot of the engine, officially from Toyota, and we're already drawing conclusions. The first, and obvious, bit of info to decipher from the photo is that the engine will be part of a new generation iForce engines. This new engine will be an iForce MAX and that's all that's been confirmed. Now for the speculative parts. Judging by the photo we can see 3 sets of intake runners on either side of the Toyota Tundra engine. This could indicate that this new MAX will be a V6, seemingly confirming many internet rumors that have been around for months. Many other car makes have been making Clermont pickup trucks with alternative engineering like hybrids and EVs. It's unclear if this new Tundra engine will include a hybrid drivetrain, but Toyota has confirmed they will be "electrifying" their trucks in the near future. Say Goodbye to the Old Entune Infotainment System Here at Toyota of Clermont, we love all of the vehicles on our lineup. It's hard to deny the fact that electric cars are currently taking the North American automotive market by storm. Many people are eager to get behind the wheel of a vehicle that spells the end of gas station trips and that's packed with futuristic features. You get the idea. When the electric car bZ4X was presented weeks ago, it was revealed that Toyota would be bringing it and other EVs to North America. Now we have sure confirmation that's true! While car makes like Ford, Chevy, and GM are cementing themselves as EV authorities (to compete with the likes of Tesla), Toyota is taking things slowly. Toyota's Hesitancy While an EV is definitely coming to North America (along with several others), that doesn't mean Toyota will become a massive producer. Akio Toyoda has made it clear, on many occasions, that he believes demand for EVs has a long way to go before a full investment is made by Toyota. Bob Carter, Toyota's executive VP of sales in the U.S., echoed this sentiment. Toyota's plan is to introduce and sell the Clermont bZ4X in North America along with an EV Lexus model in 2022, but they'll both be manufactured in Japan. The idea is to wait until the demand for EVs among consumers is significantly raised and then Toyota would invest in manufacturing further. And not only that, this new Toyota Highlander will come standard with some pretty excellent features. As noted, this new Toyota SUV is all-wheel drive, and it has a separate rear-mounted electric motor that powers the back wheel exclusively. It has no mechanical connection between the transmission and rear wheels to improve understeering and prevent your front wheels from slipping when you accelerate in all-wheel drive. You'll also be able to tackle uneven or slippery terrain with ease. It's also incredibly fuel-efficient. You'll get a high-efficiency 2.5L 4-cylinder engine under the hood with two electric motors, all of which results in 36 mpg fuel efficiency (and a lot of saved gas, money, AND natural resources). Toyota is like an ever-giving birthday gift. Every time you look, there's always something new to unpack and get excited about. There's Always Something New with Toyota New Toyota Tacoma Mystery Pair For all the taco fans out there, Toyota has heard your cries and there are now not one, but two Toyota Tacomas coming soon! The Tacoma is likely not going to receive a total style and engineering overhaul, like it's bigger sibling, the Clermont Tundra, but it will be getting something new. Toyota has released two side-by-side images of the wheels of the new trucks and there are a few things we can determine. In one image, the Toyota Tacoma the wheel is attached to is painted a highlighter/neon yellow and there's a TRD cap on the wheel. If this tells us anything, it's that Toyota is likely going to release a new paint color option for it's TRD line and it's likely to be this yellow seen here. In the other, we see a bronze colored wheel attached to a white and/or silver new Toyota Tacoma. While the paint color is likely nothing new, we can see that the "TOYOTA" logo on the wheel is an older/vintage design. It might be a left-field speculation, but this might be a heritage or retro-inspired design option for the next model year. The 10th Nightshade Fam Member Toyota's Clermont Nightshade is exuding popularity. Many new Toyota's with these design options attached don't stay too long at our dealership and it looks like there's another one to add to the list. Currently, the list includes the 4Runner, C-HR, Avalon, Camry, Sequoia, Corolla, Corolla Hatchback, Tundra, and Tacoma. The Prius would become the 10th member of the Nightshade lineup and include similar accessories to its counterparts. It's possible that the new Toyota Prius could receive additional upgrades like a different front bumper (similar to the Highlander XSE) or an added rear diffuser. No official word on pricing or release date, yet. But, Toyota plans to fully unveil both of the Clermont Toyota Tacoma models and the Nightshade Prius on June 2nd. Paul Walker's Supra is Heading to Auction Love the movies or not (if you don't, what's your problem?), you can't deny that the Fast Saga had a lot to do with the new Toyota Supra's renewed popularity. Today, we have even more spy material of the upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser, new anti-theft technology for catalytic converters, and the actual truth of Toyota's North American electric vehicle (EV) plan. Let's dive in! Get Ready for Some New Toyota News! Toyota Anti-Theft Tech We're sure you've seen in several headlines for areas around Clermont talking about catalytic converter theft. For those who don't know what those, catalytic converters (catty for short) are auto parts attached to your vehicle's exhaust system to purify what comes out of your tailpipe. For many new Toyota vehicles, these parts are made of precious metals like platinum, rhodium, and palladium. Naturally, these metals are worth a pretty penny when harvested correctly and in larger amounts. Again, naturally, some develop questionable side-hustles and many have found themselves missing their catties. To solve this issue, Toyota has developed a new self-subsidized technology to better track and retrieve stolen catties. In a partnership with a company called Smartwater (not the bottled water, silly), they've produced marking kits that effectively make it easier to track down the precious metal containing catties. Commonly, older models are targeted because they're often outside the bounds of a dealership network and they still contain enough metal in their catalytic converters to make it worth putting up on blocks. Unfortunately, this program is only available in the UK currently. Toyota's Real Plan for North American Electrification Toyota has been a frequently outspoken proponent of pumping the brakes on electrifying the entire automotive industry. Whether or not you agree with the idea that BEVs are the solution to cleaning up the automotive industry's contribution to global emissions, you have to admit that they're hella cool, convenient, and a great alternative to gasoline power. Many major automotive manufacturers are working to make BEVs out of many of their huge nameplates. Toyota released the concept for the bZ4X just a short time ago and many were excited about this upcoming EV. But, Toyota's overall plan is to manufacture more hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles (around 70% of their total sales output in North America) rather than Clermont new Toyota EVs (only about 15% of total sales). It's likely that Toyota will manufacture and allot most of their battery EVs to areas, like California, with more emission restrictions rather than North America as a whole. The New Toyota Land Cruiser is Super Leaky Many are calling it Toyota's worst kept secret and, tbh, that's pretty accurate. But, we're not complaining! If it comes between knowing what's coming next from Toyota and not knowing, we'd take the former every time. Various spy photos of what looks like the upcoming new Toyota Land Cruiser were revealed last week and now we've seen leaked video footage of the vehicle driving and making a right turn! With the new Toyota Land Cruiser being this leaky, it's likely that Toyota will issue a formal announcement for it toward the end of the month. If that happens, you'll be the first to know! So, why are they filing patents for this type of Clermont Toyota engine now? Here are a few points to consider. The Engine Will Likely Go in a Lexus Model Being so wrapped up in Toyota models here at Toyota of Clermont, we often forget about Toyota's luxurious little sibling, Lexus. Toyota's luxury brand is highly sought-after and desirable to drivers everywhere and it's an experimental playground. This is where Toyota plans to develop and patent self-driving technology, after all. This engine, being so overpowered, could be featured in Lexus' F (Flagship) line of performance vehicles in the near future. Most models currently use a 5.0L V8 so it wouldn't be surprising to see a supercharged version. It Could be Used in the Tundra or a New Land Cruiser Wait, wait, wait, hear us out. This new super-charged engine could make it's way into the Clermont Toyota Tundra or possibly a new North American Land Cruiser. But, the configuration in the patent, what's known as a Hot-V, is typically featured in luxury and performance vehicles (think Porsche, Cadillac, Aston Martin, etc.). While we're not saying that the Clermont Toyota Tundra is undeserving of a V8 engine like that, it wouldn't make much sense from a financial point. A 24-Hour Endurance Race, a Lot of Hydrogen, and a Combustion Engine A dive into Toyota can show you that this automotive manufacturer likes to engage in several extra-curriculars. Racing is one of those things and Toyota does a bang-up job on the track. While it often takes track-ready Toyotas to the raceway, our namesake has combined two polar opposite engineering structures to make a whole new monster. Toyota's new electric car concept is one that we're immensely excited to share with you and we can't wait to welcome it here at Toyota of Clermont. This is a huge deal. Toyota is finally entering the BEV game and it's doing so in a big way. Between all the Tesla beef we wondered if we'd ever get to this point. Toyota bZ4X Details Before we get too ahead of ourselves daydreaming about driving this iconic new Toyota electric car, here are some initial details confirmed by Toyota in their press release: The new Clermont Toyota electric car will be called the bZ4X. "bZ" stands for "Beyond Zero," Toyota's new campaign regarding zero emissions. The "4X" could be describing the number of doors or the drivetrain. We're not entirely sure as of this writing. For the bZ4X, AWD will be the standard drivetrain. This new Clermont Toyota electric car will be done in collaboration with Subaru and built on Toyota's new dedicated e-TNGA platform for BEVs. The concept vehicle features unique designs like a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and an open concept interior space. For the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, the bZ4X model showcased a "yoke" style steering wheel. While we're not sure if this particular feature will make its way to North America, we'd be ecstatic if it did! Toyota will begin production of this model in Japan and China with the goal of beginning sales in 2022. The product details for this Clermont electric car will be revealed at a later date for the U.S. Apart from specific news regarding the amazing-looking bZ4X, Toyota also revealed some additional news that's sure to excite. Toyota is planning on expanding its global lineup to include around 70 electric cars. These will not all be BEVs. This will include various hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and 15 dedicated BEVs. 7 of these 15 BEVs will carry the bZ moniker (Beyond Zero). This is to help Toyota achieve its carbon neutrality goal by 2050. While it doesn't state specifics regarding this pledge, Toyota does make clear that it plans on bringing both hybrid and BEV powertrains to the truck lineup. This is massive news and it could further point to what many internet sleuths and Toyota enthusiasts are thinking right now.
