A recent gem came onto the infamous eBay auction market and scored big. And we mean big. But, considering what it was, we're not surprised at the price. A Clermont 1993 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck hit with only 84 miles on the odometer is a rarity that is only seen every once in a while. This is a truck that's from a time when the odometer was a rotating dial, no digital anything here (Danny DeVito as Matilda's father would be wetting his pants right now). So, what's the story behind this hidden gem? We've got that here too. This Clermont Toyota Tacoma was originally purchased in 1993 and was driven for only 80 miles. It was then tucked away in a barn in New Hampshire for 28 years and was rediscovered in 2021. A Tacoma slept through so much, but now it's ready to tackle the open road once again. The second owner purchased it and only racked up 4 miles on the odometer to "see if it worked" and that's it. It was then put up on an eBay auction with a starting price of $20,000 and the rest is history. The seller described the Toyota Tacoma as having all original parts, aside from the battery, fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel pickup assembly, and only a few minor dents in the body. All in all, this is a solid Clermont pickup truck that we can't blame someone for paying $45,000 for. As to what purpose this truck will fulfill, we're not sure. What Happened in 1993? With a 1993 copy of the Tacoma selling for so much more than it was originally worth (and worth more than many modern cars are), it makes one think, what's so special about the year of our lord, 1993? The Toyota Pickup, as it was known back in '93, is the precursor to the Clermont Toyota Tacoma and what became of the Hilux in North America. This truck sported 3 different engine options, with two 4-cylinders and a V6, and manual and automatic transmissions were available depending on the selected trim grade. The body design was fairly boxy in nature with various cabin sizes. The smallest 4-cylinder engine afforded drivers with 26 miles per gallon and 2WD and 4WD were offered as drivetrains. All New Toyota Multimedia System Incoming If we know our readers like we think we do, we know ya'll like bullets. After all, they're more digestible and easy to mentally process. Like little verbal hors d’oeuvres. Anyway, I digress. Let's dive into some quick things to know about the new Toyota multimedia system featured in the upcoming Clermont Toyota Tundra. First off, this new system has a new name. The Human Machine Interface (HMI) is an all new infotainment platform designed by Toyota to be in better competition with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Granted, both of these UI platforms are still able to be used on the upcoming Clermont Tundra, but drivers now have more options. The HMI Toyota multimedia system is designed to emphasize key sensory processes like sight, touch, and voice. Entune (while we love it) was, admittedly, dated and flawed in many ways. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provided much more accessibility for drivers, but HMI is aiming to turn that around. Processing power is increased 5-fold and the system, at least in the Clermont Toyota Tundra, is operated on a 8-inch or 14-inch touchscreen display. For the sake of convenience and optimal tactile function, the system still includes a volume knob, but uses pinch and zoom touch functions. The HMI Toyota multimedia system also uses a voice-activated Intelligent Assistant (eat your heart out, Siri) for easier use while behind the wheel. Two front of cabin microphones make using it simple for both driver and front passenger. The voice activated assistant creates an environment for conversation-like interaction between the system and driver. User profiles can be set through the HMI Clermont Toyota multimedia system. Profiles store essential info like noise settings, seating setting preferences, climate controls, and more. Logging into a user profile can be logged in via a connection to a smartphone via bluetooth or username and password login on the infotainment screen itself. Native navigation is far more advanced with over the air updates to mapping and points of interest. With that in mind, Clermont new Toyota has released projections regarding the target viability of their upcoming solid-state battery tech. They project that the battery for the upcoming bZ4X to retain charging capacity at 90% after 10 years. That's truly impressive. Most lithium-ion batteries today have a very short lifespan and lose their ability to hold charging capacity after a fairly short amount of time. These are merely projections, granted, but if they are to come to fruition, you best believe we're going to have some smart phones lasting forever too. The New Toyota Corolla Cross Meets Positive Praise Not that we didn't see this coming (we did), it's just nice to be validated. Toyota unveiled a new variety of Corolla not too long ago, it has since dropped for press outlets, and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive! In a bold move by Toyota, the Clermont Corolla Cross takes the lifeblood and things that make the Corolla great and turned it into an affordable crossover. Reviewers are speaking positively about it's ease to drive, interior comfort, familiar driving feel, great handling, and agreeable price. This is due to a combination of Toyota slashing global production by about 40%, ongoing coronavirus Delta variant spread, production plant closures, and a surging demand for the new Cruiser. The landscape of the automotive world is experiencing a regressive progression back to its EV roots while also charting a course forward. Within the next few years, roads will likely be filled with an equitable mix of EVs and ICEs and eventually, EVs might even be all that's offered. Such is the nature of advancement and technology. The future is most certainly leaning that way, but the present is thoroughly inundated with gasoline-powered vehicles. It's understandable to have some hesitancy when approaching a future image so different from the present. But, it looks like Toyota is going to continue to cover all its bases with this latest bit of news. The bZ4X and Solid-State Batteries Toyota has put up quite a large investment in new battery technology that will likely provide it with ample infrastructure going forward. The name of the game for Toyota is Clermont electric car solid-state batteries. In theory, these batteries are the next advancement of lithium-ion technology. Ideally, this technology will be more easily produced, and on a larger scale, they hold a charge for a longer period of time, and they have better longevity compared to their former lithium-ion electric car battery iterations. Toyota's $14 billion, yes $14 BILLION, investment in the technology aims to not only set up the technology for solid-state battery power but to establish amplified production efforts and include the technology in many new upcoming Toyota models. The production investment estimates a 30% reduction in overall cost through the use of less costly materials and production structures. The development of solid-state battery technology is estimated to stretch through 2030 and involves securing 200 gigawatt-hours of battery supply. Toyota's overall electrification plan includes the rolling out of 15 dedicated BEVs, 7 of which will include the "Beyond Zero" moniker, and around 70 total electrified models. Between now and 2025, Toyota plans to introduce a majority of these new electric cars to the public by 2025 and follow up with their new solid-state battery technology by 2030. It's unclear if the earlier iterations of the Clermont bZ4X will include a solid-state lithium-ion battery or if newer hybrids will include updated battery technology. New Toyota Stories Before the Weekend Arrives 2022 4Runner TRD Sport Coming Soon Everyone's favorite beefy off-roader, the new Toyota 4Runner is returning to Toyota of Clermont for the 2022 model year. For the impending model year, Toyota is taking this new ride up a notch by introducing a new trim grade, the TRD Sport. Here's what you can expect to see on this unique grade: All trim grades and models will feature standard LED high and low beam lighting. The SR5 Premium, TRD Pro, and Limited trim grades will include Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert safety features. To better suit on-road driving, the Clermont new Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport will include an updated suspension system feature called Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS). This unique feature automatically adjusts the damping force of the shock absorbers during cornering and driving on uneven surfaces. TRD Sport models will be available as either 2WD or part-time 4WD with a 2-speed transfer case. 9.0-inches of ground clearance will be standard on the 2WD models while 9.6-inches will be included on 4WD models. Instead of the 17-inch wheels on the SR5 trim, of which the TRD Sport is based, this new trim grade will include 20-inch dark gray accented wheels. Toyota Safety Sense P is standard on this Clermont new Toyota trim grade. Cosmetically, this trim grade is set apart with the inclusion of a TRD-style hood scoop and front spoiler. Black roof rails will be included along with several TRD embossed accent pieces throughout the interior of the vehicle. Lime Rush will be a new paint color option. Big Changes Coming for the Big Bad Sequoia When it comes to the Clermont new Toyota Sequoia, many would say it exists in an awkward place on Toyota's lineup. But, this one has us scratching our heads a little. Street trucks are a niche segment of pickups that don't get enough exposure. The lower stance, minimal wheel gap, fender flares, and more. The aesthetic of these trucks is evocative of something we wish was more common today. But, Toyota's iteration is a bit of an ugly duck. This Hilux, a Gazoo Racing project destined for Thailand, is called the Lo-Floor and a low floor it doth have. It sports an almost full inch shorter suspension all around, but terribly small wheels and tires that leave too much gap between the tires and the weld. This could have been an excellent Tacoma X-Runner replacement we'd never see, but we gotta say keep it on this one. Hydrogen Power in a Prius AND a Corolla The future always looks bright, so full of possibilities. In this case, the future is full of hydrogen. Toyota is aiming to introduce EVs, but on a smaller scale than many of its auto manufacturer counterparts. Instead, hydrogen is being considered the primary path forward. The Clermont Toyota Prius and Corolla are considered likely candidates to be retrofitted with hydrogen-based fueling systems. This will likely happen sometime during or after the Clermont 2023 model year. Speaking on what is perhaps the slowest, most exciting burn in the truck world, the new Toyota Tundra just got a new reveal. So far we've seen an exterior shot, the panoramic moonroof, and engine cover. There's been speculation on trim grades and drivetrains, but there's still much we don't know about this elusive Toyota truck. Well, readers, we just got something new to celebrate. The suspension system for the upcoming Toyota Tundra was revealed and we're excited to tell you all about it. Keep in mind, this information isn't officially confirmed by Toyota and is just our speculation based on images shared in a press release. Let's dive in! Toyota of Clermont's Got the Latest New Toyota Scoop In a recent press release from Toyota, the popular saying of "turning over a new leaf" was used to illustrate that the new Toyota Tundra was getting some upgrades. Particularly, these upgrades will be for the Clermont suspension system. In fact, it's a complete overhaul of this essential automotive system. Leaf spring suspension has been the traditional one to use, but Toyota looks to abandon that. Judging from the pictures we've seen of the suspension system, Toyota will be using a 5-link rear suspension. What exactly does that mean for the Clermont new Toyota Tundra? Link suspension in the rear typically gives trucks more hauling power and durability when it comes to off-roading. Many other competitor models are using this design of suspension and reaping the benefits. But, the unique thing about Toyota's setup is that the link bars are placed closer to the rear axle. This design is most often seen on off-road racing trucks. More than likely, this will be used on TRD variants of the soon-to-release Tundra. There's Always More to the Clermont New Toyota Tundra From the press release photos, we can also see a huge amount of protective skid and bash plating going on. Of course, the iconic front bash-plate, with the embossed TRD lettering, will be making a comeback for the new Toyota Tundra. But, we can also see skid plate coverings on the fuel tank and the bulk of the drivetrain. Now, onto the front. This Clermont new Toyota suspension system using a front suspension system that includes FOX bypass shocks with a sway bar. While Tundras have had this design before, it's interesting to see on a full-size/half-ton model like this. Especially, given the rear suspension schematic. Sway bars aren't often needed for off-roading or racing, but they do provide a comfortable on-road driving experience. Toyota will likely be striking an ideal balance between off-roading chops and on-road comfort for this next iteration. Another week has come and gone and that means there's news to be written about! Toyota has hardly stayed quiet as of late and we have a variety of news to share with you that you're sure to have not heard yet and love. We've gotten an official look, confirmation of an engine name, and even a pic of the panoramic moonroof. But, the new Toyota Tundra is still thoroughly wrapped in mystery. We still don't know which alternative drivetrains will be offered, how many trim grades there are, the price, and so on. However, we may have just received a clue as to a drivetrain option. The upcoming Clermont Tundra might be going the hybrid route as Toyota recently a trademark for the name "Hybrid Max." iForce Max was revealed to be the name of the upcoming Tundra's engine not too long ago and filing a trademark of similar name just seems a little too coincidental. Like most companies though, Toyota could simply be filing the trademark to ensure that another company doesn't take a product name too similar to whatever they might use in the future. It's certainly a great way to secure intellectual property, but does it mean more than that? Unfortunately, this is something we'll have to wait and see. The Supra Turns 35! It's hard to believe that Clermont new Toyota Supra has turned 35 years old. It seems like yesterday it was coming out from under the wing of the Celica and coming into a model of its own. They grow up so fast (crying actual tears right now). When a milestone like this is crossed, there's only one way for Toyota to celebrate. A new special edition trim grade! To commemorate the 35th of the iconic Toyota sport coupe, there will be a new special edition releasing in Japan. The 35th Anniversary Edition will not include any mechanical upgrades, but some pretty neat aesthetic upgrades like: 19-inch forged alloy matte black wheels. Carbon-fiber interior accent pieces and a "35th Anniversary" designation on the passenger-side dashboard. The Clermont new Toyota special edition trim grade will be based on Japan's SZ-R trim grade which includes red brake calliper cover and matte-black mirror caps. For additional fun, Toyota has limited this model to just 35 copies. Because demand will likely be high for this exclusive trim grade, a raffle will be organized to determine buyers on September 7th. North America won't be getting this particular trim grade, but be on the lookout for other special editions in the future! Parts for the 40 Series Cruiser are Coming Back! If you happen to be restoring or destroying a 40 Series Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser (built between 1960 and 1984), you'll be happy to know that parts are back in production. In an effort to help drivers who still use these models keep them going, Toyota Gazoo Racing will be putting several parts back into production. To most, if not all, the popular automotive news outlets out there, the Toyota Avalon is in dire straits. First the Land Cruiser and now the Avalon. Sad times indeed. Toyota of Clermont is here for the mourning to begin. We'll recount a brief history of this beloved full-sized sedan and walk through why it's being axed by the Toyota gods. Let's jump in (tears and all)! What Happened to the Toyota Avalon? In a year where cars are in dramatically short supply, it seemed to all the world that Toyota's lineup would remain unphased. We already lost the Clermont Land Cruiser, after all. In fact, sales of the Avalon were up significantly from 2020, but that wasn't enough to save it. In truth, the automotive landscape has changed a lot since the Avalon's peak year, 2000. Drivers now heavily prefer SUVs and compact variants of that formula. If sedans are being driven (yes, the Corolla and Camry are still going strong), they're often more compact in size to emphasize practicality and be more fuel-efficient. For many drivers out there, the Clermont Toyota Avalon was overpowered, overpriced, and not necessary. While there's been no official word from Toyota indicating that the Toyota Avalon is out of the game (there wasn't for the Land Cruiser, either, but it's pretty obvious), reports show that Toyota's manufacturing plant in Kentucky is planning on ending output. This comes as rumors circulated that the Avalon was due for another refresher soon. Remembering the Good Days The Clermont Toyota Avalon may be knocking on death's door, but it has lived a full life for a full-sized sedan. Here are a few historical highlights to remember when you're feeling particularly sappy: The Avalon was introduced all the way back in 1994 as a replacement for the discontinued Cressida. The Cressida used a straight 6-cylinder engine and RWD (honestly, sounds like the perfect combo) while the Avalon opted for a V6 with FWD. "Avalon" refers to the name of an island from Arthurian legends. Five design generations have come and gone for the Clermont Toyota Avalon and each of them bringing something new to the table. The fifth and final generation upped the sporty factor to match what's under the hood. Distinct body lines, distinguished paint color options, a TRD trim grade, and more marked this model year interesting, to say the least. Production and assembly all took place domestically in Georgetown, Kentucky for the Avalon. It's also sold in China and that country will be the only one with Avalon's still available after the 2022 model year. This elusive new Toyota truck is due to arrive at Toyota of Clermont this fall, but Toyota has been pretty close-mouthed about the specifics that it'll be showcasing when it does. Several teasers have been released, but we're still waiting for the grand unveiling. New details were released this week regarding the interior as well as the technology and performance, and our Clermont Toyota dealership is here to share. We all know that the new 2022 Toyota Tundra has been redesigned both inside and out. It's sporting an all-new exterior look, a redesigned cabin, and an all-new engine under the hood. Here's a bit of what we know so far: The V8 engine that's been in the Toyota Tundra for years is out. It's being replaced with (we are pretty sure) a V6 iForce Max engine, likely one that has turbocharged options. This means more power AND more fuel efficiency, which is a big plus for drivers. It's also highly likely that a hybrid powertrain will be up for grabs in the new 2022 model for a cleaner and greener performance. We also know that it'll have a 10-speed automatic transmission and be designed based on the new TNGA platform with body-on-frame construction and high-strength steel for an overall lighter weight. The interior will likely showcase top tech for both entertainment and safety (after all, it is Toyota). A new tablet-like touchscreen interface will be up for grabs and there will be a power rear window. So what's been revealed in the latest teaser photos for the 2022 Toyota Tundra? Here's what we were able to glean from the trio of pictures: The plush interior will be available in a red fabric/perforated leather trim. It's super similar to that of the 2021 Toyota TRD Camry (which we absolutely love) and will likely be available on a TRD model of the 2022 Toyota Tundra. Additionally, TRD badging will be featured throughout, including on the seats. New teaser photos have also revealed that wireless charging will be available in this Clermont Toyota truck, so it's reasonable to expect that the rest of the cabin would follow suit and offer the best of the best when it comes to technology. On top of that, a knob for drive modes is featured in the teaser photos. We haven't seen too many new announcements, but that doesn't mean there isn't something interesting going on. Some Crazy New Toyota Stories Can an Engine that's Been Buried for a Year Still Run? Yes, the most existential and profound of questions out there. Truly. But, for real, can you actually get an engine to run after it's been buried in the ground for a year? That's what the guys behind Garage 54 (a popular YouTube channel of mechanics from Russia) sought to find out. About a year ago, the guys decided to pull a crazy car stunt (which they most always do. Highly recommend watching) that involved burying an engine and resurrecting it. But, that was a year ago. The engine, being a new Toyota diesel 2CT model, had been buried for an entire year with the wiring, air intake, and radiator all exposed. It even endured an entire Russian winter! After it was dug up and hosed off, the engin surprisingly only needed a few repairs and checks before it was running again. While we wouldn't recommend mating this engine to anything, it's still a remarkable and funny story! How Long Does it Take You to Park by Backing in? If you answered 8 minutes, answer this, are you the person in this hilarious video? While we at Toyota of Clermont understand that driving is a lengthy learning experience at which no one is truly an expert, this is pretty funny to watch. Based in the UK, The Sun published a video via Twitter that shows a Clermont new Toyota Auris driver struggling to back in park for 8 minutes before getting it right. What makes the situation more hilarious is the fact that there are several open spaces around for the driver to have room to work and it still takes a ludicrous amount of time.
