It's Monday and that means it's time for another round of new Toyota news! Toyota GR Yaris Cross The Gazoo Racing segment of Toyota is best known for its many high-performance Toyota variants that take everything we love about the Clermont Toyota lineup and kick it up a notch. While we have variants of the Supra and 86 in North America, we're expecting the Hot Hatch anytime now, Japan will be getting a GR Yaris Cross soon. This small crossover, designed for city commuting, will be offered with new sporty features like: 18-inch black alloy wheels Sport dual tipped exhaust system Mud flaps Exterior accent pieces And more! Toyota-Backed Flying Car Takes Test Flight It's a well-known fact that Toyota has achieved a large footing in the technology world by investing heavily in futuristic business ventures over the years. A Clermont new Toyota venture includes an investment in SkyDrive which recently took their first public test flight of their aerial car. This vehicle is named the SD-03 and is recognized as the world's smallest electric powered VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) vehicle. The model features 8 rotors that operate simultaneously in the event of failure. SkyDrive hopes to bring a new two-person to market by 2023. The Japanese Lunar Rover Has a Name and its Very Toyota Do you remember the Toyota lunar vehicle we told you about quite a while ago? Well, if not, here's a refresher. Toyota and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) have been working on fuel-cell based technology lunar vehicle for space exploration. While the team doesn't expect to start engineering this Clermont lunar vehicle until 2024, they have named it! The Lunar Cruiser. This vehicle is expected to have a public reveal by 2029 with a manned expedition by 2030. How Does the New Toyota Venza Roof Work? If you haven't heard the news yet, the 2021 Toyota Venza is coming soon to Toyota of Clermont and there's a lot to unpack and get excited about! This new Toyota SUV will be a standard hybrid and will be one of the more luxurious Toyota models on the lineup. It will also include standard AWD and more. One of the more bougie and downright amazing features available on this model is the Star Gaze Roof. This option is available on the Clermont new Toyota Venza for an additional $1,400 and will appear to most as a panoramic sunroof. While that's cool and all, it's what else it can do that sets this roof glass apart. The Star Gaze roof can be set to either clear or frosted glass depending on preference. Like a dynamic duo (Batman and Robin vibes?), the Toyota Supra and 86 have become a commanding force for Toyota's sportscar segment. The Supra for it's amazing take on a classic that truly preforms and the 86 for its unique engineering and accessibility. While there's talks of expanding this duo into something of a triumvirate (release the MR2!), today we're focusing on the baby new Toyota 86 and the exciting news we recently heard. It turns out that the Toyota 86, also known as the Subaru BRZ, is winding down production. Before you panic, follow along with us at Toyota of Clermont for some background on the 86 and what this news means for the beloved boxer. Production is Halting for the New Toyota 86 The Clermont Toyota 86 is arguably a hot ticket item when it comes to the Toyota lineup. It's sporty design, unique boxer engine, and no frills sportsmanship lend it to be quite a fan favorite. But, production and orders for the current gen 86/BRZ have come to an end. Before you panic, this doesn't mean that the 86 is being done away with (RIP Yaris). Before we dive into what this means for this model, let's take a moment to discuss some facts about the new Toyota 86's history on the Toyota and Subaru lineup. The Toyota 86, since its conception, has been a shared partnership vehicle between Subaru and Toyota. It was originally and continues to be constructed at the Subaru Gunma plant in Japan. It had its debut in 2011 and was originally part of the Scion lineup and had the name of FRS rather than 86 (again, RIP). The only difference between the new Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ is the nameplate and exterior badging. Otherwise both vehicles are the same. The 86 maintains its weight distribution in a low spot for preferred balancing while driving. The engine, a unique boxer design, is positioned low to help the vehicle achieve a weight distribution of 53% in the front and 47% in the rear. The 86 can reach an estimated top speed of 145 mph and has an estimated 0-60 mph time of 6.0-6.2 seconds. The new Toyota 86 gets its name from its production code of 086A. What Does this all Mean? While you might still be freaking out a little over the new Toyota 86 news, we assure you that this is a good thing. The Clermont Toyota 86 is a staple on the Toyota lineup and it's not going anywhere. Typically, when an auto manufacturer stops accepting orders or stops production of a particular model year vehicle, it means something new is coming soon. This is done to clear out any existing inventory in preparation for what's to come next. New Toyota News Coming Your Way 2021 Clermont Toyota Corolla Cross Coming Toyota was set to reveal the Toyota Yaris during the Geneva Motor Show but was opted for a virtual reveal due to the COVID0-19 pandemic. In a similar fashion, our favorite auto manufacturer revealed the upcoming Corolla Cross. This Clermont new Toyota model will be released in Thailand and not North America. However there's still speculation that this model will make its way to our dealership. Toyota still intends to add a new SUV to lineup in N America soon and this could very well be it. New Special Edition Toyota Supra The Toyota Supra has been back in production for a short time now and we've seen several special editions including the Launch Edition. This year we have a 4-cylinder Clermont Toyota variant along with the base model receiving a small boost in horsepower. But, what if we told you a future Supra could be packing over 500 ponies under the hood? According to a Japanese car website, a GRMN model Clermont new Toyota Supra could be coming soon and might pack the BMW M3/M4 engine under the hood that reps over 510 horsepower. This could also mean that the modern Supra could fall out of production by 2025. Good Luck Finding a Toyota RAV4 Prime The new Toyota Clermont RAV4 Prime is coming soon to our dealership and we're excited to welcome this new model. That is if we get any inventory. A report from publisher Electrek claims that the Toyota only plans to release 5,000 units of the RAV4 Prime in North America. Allegedly, Toyota claims this is due to a shortage of supplies needed to construct the lithium-ion battery. Some good news, the Toyota RAV4 Prime has better than expected EPA numbers. The original MPGe estimate clocked in at 90 and the EPA reports 94. The all electric range was initially reported at 39 and clocks in with the EPA 42 miles. Diesel Engines on the Tacoma or Tundra? There are several rumors surrounding the arrival of a new Toyota Tundra and the possibility of it including a hybrid drivetrain. Those speculations aside, there's reason to believe that Toyota might try to bring a high compression engine to its truck siblings. A patent from Toyota, originally filed in 2019, was made public this month and reveals plans to produce an engine that exerts more force behind piston motion and yields better compression. This could create better power and emit less fumes. The patent doesn't state whether the engine will use gasoline or diesel and has us wondering if this engine will ever see the light of day and which Clermont new Toyota model we'll see it in. There are many sayings and phrases out there about how mistakes need to be made to get to the finished product. Failures are always an indication of future success. After all, if you didn't fail, how would you learn what works and what doesn't? While we could dive into the existentialism of failure and learning, we're sure you'd rather learn about the blunders of our favorite auto manufacturer, Toyota. With a history going back as far as 1937 some mistakes are bound to be made along the way. In the spirit of improvement, we at Toyota of Clermont, are looking back at some of the worst Toyota models ever made. Check them out! Some of the Worst Toyota Models Ever Made 1958 Toyopet Crown The Toyopet Crown was the first Clermont Toyota model every sold in the U.S. and it was also one of the worst. This model was designed to commute on Japanese streets that typically had a speed limit of 40 mph and was never tested on North American roads. Not only was this vehicle ill-suited to reach commuting speeds, it was constructed with a heavy-gauge steel body that stressed the small 60-horsepower engine to its breaking point. 1991 Toyota Previa The successor to the highly criticized Toyota Van was also the victim of design flaws. The Clermont Toyota model Previa's issues began with its awkward exterior design that perturbed many drivers but that was just the beginning. The Previa carried about 2-tons of curb weight and was powered only by a 4-cylinder with a mid-engine layout. A supercharger was added to increase power but only drove the cost up and made the engine noisier than before. 1992 Toyota Paseo A slick two-door sport-coupe is always a great way to draw a younger demographic, but the Toyota model Paseo missed its mark. The year the Paseo hit the market it faced steep competition from other car manufacturers who were able to capitalize on a more liberal exterior design to lure in younger drivers. Many drivers of the Clermont Paseo complained of poor understeering which made it unpleasant to drive. 1993 Toyota T100 Thanks to the Toyota Hilux (shout out Marty McFly), Toyota commanded and capitalized on the Clermont compact-truck automotive segment. It was only natural that our favorite auto manufacturer fry bigger fish, but the Toyota model T100 was was destined to be a bad catch. The 1993 T100 used an 8-foot bed like many of the North American trucks of the time but failed to adopt the same size elsewhere. The V6 under the hood was also seen as a downgrade to many drivers who were used to large gas-guzzling engines in their trucks. 2012 Scion iQ First of all, RIP Scion, and second, does anyone remember Smart cars? Well, the Scion iQ was Toyota's response to the micro-car segment started by Mercedes Benz's parent company. While the iQ improved on areas where Smart failed, it never managed to sell the same numbers and was seen as more of a safety hazard than viable driving option due to the sheer amount of large vehicles on N American roads. This new Toyota hybrid system will also feature new lithium-ion and nickel-metal hydride batteries that are smaller and lighter, which means they can be fitted underneath the back seats with ease. This exclusive and elusive Toyota 4x4 has entered its mid-20s and we're finding ourselves a little envious about the fact that this iconic ride never made its way to this side of the world (unless you happen to visit the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah). To commemorate the creation of this legendary ride, we've compiled some historical information about the Clermont Toyota Mega Cruiser. But, it doesn't end there! The History of the Mega Cruiser Out of Toyota's vast lineup that's distributed throughout the world, the Mega Cruiser stands tall and wide in the off-roading world. The history behind the birthday car in question is interesting considering its initial purpose and construction. In true Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser fashion, Toyota was asked by an outside party to build a vehicle fit for the Japan Ground Self Defense Force (another notable instance of this was the original Jeep clone Land Cruiser from the Korean War). The Mega Cruiser was created in 1995 with both off-roading capability and military power in mind. The result was a gigantic Toyota Land Cruiser-like vehicle that rivaled the American Humvee. The Clermont Mega Cruiser packs a 4.1-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel under the hood and revs up the unique with four-corner independent suspension and and inboard braking system. In conjunction with the military units produced by Toyota, there were about 100 civilian models also released. Because of their obvious rarity, a Clermont Toyota Mega Cruiser is very difficult to come by. There really don't make them like that anymore! What's New with the Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser? Speaking of new Land Cruisers, there are some additional rumors circulating the interwebs regarding the new Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series. First thing's first, Toyota has not officially confirmed the whereabouts and production of this suspected upcoming model. However, we at Toyota of Clermont appreciate leaks and rumors because it gives us hope and excitement for the future of our all-time favorite car brand. Here are a few rumors surrounding the new Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser: The 300 Series Land Cruiser will likely be revealed sometime in the next coming months. If past rumors are true, the 300 Series will come included with a trim level like the TRD Pro trim for many of Toyota's current lineup. However, this is likely for Australia because of the huge off-roading and Land Cruiser market there. There's the possibility that the 300 Series Toyota Land Cruiser might not come to North America at all. It will likely strip away many of the luxury features that made the J200 Series so expensive and instead opt for a off-roading friendly version favored by longtime fans of this Toyota classic. New Toyota Tundra Allegedly releasing in the 4th quarter of 2021, a new Clermont new Toyota model Tundra is slated to be released with a plethora of changes in store. A new chassis will be used, there's a rumor of a hybrid version, and it may ditch the traditional V8 engine for a twin-turbo V6. Toyota Corolla Wagon While trademark filings don't always mean that a new something is on the way (some are taken out for insurance policies or for *possible* future use), we're hopeful this one comes to fruition. In Europe and Australia there exists a version of the Clermont Toyota Corolla called the Corolla Touring Sport and it might be making its way to North America in the form of a Corolla Wagon. Get to know the 2022 Toyota Yaris Cross The 2022 Toyota Yaris Cross is sort of a "big brother" to the original Clermont Toyota Yaris - it's more spacious and has different performance features, but it does share some similarities. The 2022 Toyota Yaris Cross will only be up for grabs in Japan this fall (of 2020) and Europe at some point next summer (2021). The new Toyota Yaris Cross was supposed to be debuted at the Geneva Motor Show way back in the beginning of March, but COVID-19 obviously threw a wrench in that. That's why Toyota decided to unveil the new Toyota SUV on their website last week instead. The Toyota Yaris Cross has some similarities to the Toyota Yaris, as noted, but it definitely differs when it comes to performance. While it sits on an Clermont Toyota Yaris wheelbase, it's taller, more spacious inside, and has longer overhangs to overall just be a bigger and more SUV-like vehicle that its predecessor. It'll also offer a hybrid model, something the current Toyota Yaris doesn't. The Cross will come with a 1.5L 3-cylinder engine under the hood, optional all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive, and the choice of CVT or a six-speed manual transmission. When it comes to appearance, the interior of the Toyota Yaris Cross does share some similarities with the original model. However, as noted it's more spacious and will offer both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via its large touchscreen interface in the dash. How about the exterior? This new Toyota trends more toward the design of the Clermont Toyota C-HR than the Toyota Yaris. It boasts angular design elements, a two-toned paint scheme, edgy new taillights and headlights, black wheel arch surrounds, and more. This week, we're taking you on a journey with the legendary classic Toyota, the AE86 and how that translated into the now iconic Toyota 86. The Fabled Toyota AE86 While a quick Google search of the Toyota AE86 will reveal little information about this vehicle (aside from its actual name being the Toyota Corolla Levin or Sprinter Trueno), but there's more to this 80s classic than meets the eye. While most of us here on the west side of the globe are probably unfamiliar with the Japanese racing scene, those who are will know the significance of this Clermont classic Toyota. In Japan, the AE86 is an iconic racing vehicle, especially along the Hakone turnpike. This windy roadway is famous for its racing passes and drift-ability and the AE86 has seen many a kilometer along this mountain pass. Keiichi Tsuchiya, better known as the "Drift King," drove his signature Toyota AE86 which catapulted the racing segment and the vehicle to stardom. A popular manga franchise, "Initial D" also made the AE86 iconic as the story, centered around a young street racer, and it's main character used an AE86 as his chosen vehicle. Despite the anime being adapted into movies, series, and a live-action stint, they all feature the AE86. The Clermont classic Toyota AE86 also won two British Touring Car Championship races in 1986 and 1987. The peppy Toyota hatchback raced past rival racing vehicles like the BMW M6, Volvo 240 Turbo, and Mazda 929. The infamous edition of this classic, the Black Limited, is by far the most valuable and most sought after trim level. Today, Toyota is revitalizing this drifting classic with a new limited edition Toyota 86! The New Black Limited Toyota 86 To commemorate the famous drift king Clermont Toyota AE86, a new special edition Toyota 86 is coming to Japan. The Black Limited trim level 86 will pay homage to the Corolla Levin will feature: An exclusive black paint color 17-inch bronze wheels Ventilated Brembo brakes A trunk lid spoiler And SACHS shock absorbers for improved comfort and stability. This model will also feature "Black Limited" interior badging on the passenger side dashboard as well as subtle bronze accents throughout. This trim level will be limited to only 86 vehicles with half and half split between manual and automatic transmissions. Toyota's executive VP, Bob Carter, disclosed that Toyota has an answer for the GR Yaris meant for the N American market. Bad News: An MR2 Revival 'Not a Priority' It's no secret that we at Toyota of Clermont love a good revival. Which is why when we heard the Toyota news rumor that the famous MR2 was rumored to be getting the revival treatment like the Supra, we were over the moon! But, it looks like those rumors will not come to fruition. In a sad turn of events for the MR2, Matt Harrison, Toyota's Europe Executive VP of sales, disclosed that the MR2 revival is not a priority. While we won't see a modernized MR2 on our roads anytime soon, we at least have a new generation of Toyota 86 to look forward to along with a third mystery sports car to complete the trio consisting so far of the Supra and 86. Bonus Story: Brian O'Conner's Mk IV Supra If you haven't seen the first Fast and Furious films, what are you doing? Just kidding. But, seriously. Most people, whether or not they've seen the movies, recognize the Mk IV Toyota Supra as the most iconic car from them. Arguably, Paul Walker's character, Brian O'Conner, is responsible for popularizing this fabled Toyota Supra. Something you probably didn't know about the particular Supra that Walker drove in the films is that it belonged to Craig Leiberman, the technical editor of The Fast and the Furious. Leiberman had a wide variety and tastes in cars and purchased a white factory 1994 Targa top Mk IV. New Toyota News This Week New Toyota News for the Daytona 500 One of the nation's largest NASCAR racing events will also be host to a new reveal for the GR Supra! Toyota has released a teaser for a new announcement regarding the 2021 model year Clermont Toyota GR Supra. We won't know for sure what Toyota is planning until the reveal on Thursday, February 13th. But, some sources claim that Toyota may reveal a 4-cylinder variant of the revived the classic Toyota sportscar as Japan already has this variant type available. The Toyota TJ Cruiser is Getting a May Release At Toyota of Clermont, we're fans of all Toyota models and the TJ Cruiser is a unique offering we want to see at our dealership. Unfortunately, there's no word of whether or not it'll make its way to the North America market (sad face). The TJ was originally showcased during the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show and was revealed as a wagon/SUV hybrid engineered vehicle. The interior is very versatile with completely foldable passenger and back seats, optional third row, and even scratch and dent resistant body panels. Toyota will release the TJ Cruiser in May of this year. New Special Editions from the Chicago Auto Show Everyone knows that Toyota loves to give it their all when it comes to auto shows. For the Chicago Auto Show this year, Toyota brought its A-game! Right off the bat, the Toyota Highlander will be receiving a new trim level for the 2021 model year, XSE. This new trim level blends together family-values and sporty aesthetics to satisfy the cool mom in all of us. This new trim level includes new exterior designs and convenience features like multi-terrain select, retuned power steering, and more. Toyota also revealed new Trail Edition for the Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner. The new special editions will be based off the SR5 trim levels, offer 2WD and AWD options, and can be paired with paint color options like Army Green, Cement, Midnight Black, and Super White. These special editions will be in limited quantity, specifically 7,000 Clermont Toyota Tacoma copies, 5,000 Tundra copies, and 4,000 4Runners. Each model will include unique upgrades. For example, the Tacoma will include 18-inch TRD Off-Road wheels with Kevlar All-Terrain tires, the Tundra will include a lockable bed storage container on the driver's side, and the 4Runner a Yakima LoadWarrior rooftop cargo basket and a custom 40-quart cooler.
