Why does your tire pressure light blink?

The tire pressure monitoring system or TPMS is a sensor system that alerts you when your tires are either overinflated or underinflated. There are a couple of reasons why your blinking tire pressure light is on in your Clermont Toyota. It’s important to know why your tire pressure light blinks. So, let’s take a further look into the reasons your car may show your tire pressure light.

Reasons why your tire pressure light is on

  • Most commonly low tire pressure is due to a simple leak caused by a nail or hole, weather change, or worn tires
  • Fault in TPMS
  • Failure to initialize

How to manually check your tire pressure?

There’s a way to check the tire pressure on the Toyota app. If you don’t have access to the Toyota app, then you will have to manually check your tire pressure. The easiest way to check it is to go to your garage and grab a tire gauge or head to the nearest gas station. So, here’s how to check your tire pressure manually.

  1. Go to your Clermont Toyota tire and twist off the cap from the air valve on the tire. Then, set aside the cap in a safe place.
  2. Take a tire gauge and press tire gauge against the open valve stem for a couple of seconds. You may hear the air come out.
  3. Check the air pressure gauge. It should tell you what air pressure your tire pressure indicates.
  4. Take this number and compare it with the recommended tire pressure
  5. Change the air pressure if needed
  6. Place the tire’s air valve cap that you set aside and turn it clockwise to tighten.
  7. Repeat this process for each of your Clermont tires.

How much air should be in each tire?

The standard air pressure can vary between each Clermont Toyota model, so you are going to want to check your car manual. Here are a few examples:

Toyota Camry Tire Pressure: Toyota Camry tire pressure should be somewhere between 32-35 PSI when the tires are cold – this means when the tires haven’t been driven in a little while. You should check PSI when the tires are cold because as they move down the road, the friction causes temps and pressure to rise and you’ll get an inaccurate reading. To check your Toyota Camry tire pressure, use a tire pressure gauge or have one of our techs check for you.

Toyota RAV4 Tire Pressure: Toyota RAV4 tire pressure should be between 32-33 PSI. Again, be sure to check the tires cold.

Toyota Highlander Tire Pressure: Toyota Highlander tire pressure is a bit higher at a recommended 36 PSI. These tires are larger than that of the Toyota Camry or RAV4, and you’ll find that different tire sizes require different PSI to ensure safety, comfort, and peak handling capabilities.

However, the majority of cars recommend 32 psi to 35 psi in the tires when they’re cold. If you check your tire pressure right after it’s been on the road, they are more likely to generate heat. Also, if you overinflate your tires it could cause premature wear on your tires.
