Gasoline vs Diesel Car Engines: The Differences

When it comes to industry-wide changes and several trends cycling simultaneously, the automotive industry is truly a poster child. Currently, strides are being made to patent more stable and sustainable alternative fuel options like electric battery power, hydrogen fuel, the evolution of hybrids, and so on. There's also a general enthusiasm within the industry to introduce self-driving technology to remove human error from driving and thereby making it much safer! With all this going on we sometimes have to remind ourselves that these technological advances are still a little ways away from appearing in your driveway. While we wait for an electric powered fully self-driving car to come our way, most of us are still working with good old petrol when it comes to power. However, even with petrol there are still choices. Many drivers are on the fence of whether to go with diesel or gasoline as fuel power for their next vehicle. If you're one of these people, Toyota of Clermont is here to cut through the noise about car engines. The Basics of How Engines Work Most of us understand the simple concept of pushing the gas pedal equals car going. To better understand what sets diesel and gasoline Clermont car engines apart (aside from their fuel type), let's go over how engines work. Clermont car engines, on a basic level, work by igniting fuel with a spark. Using belts, hoses, and pistons, engines move fluids, fuel, and more throughout the engine compartment to generate power and create motion for your car. Now the good part, what makes diesel and gasoline engines so different? A gasoline engine generates its spark for fuel ignition by using spark plugs. These small parts ignite air after its compressed by the engine. Diesel Clermont car engines lack spark plugs and instead use extreme compression to generate a high amount of heat to create a spark. Diesel engines use less parts than their internal combustion counterparts and are able to burn fuel more efficiently. Because of this, diesel engines can also produce more power with less fuel capacity and smaller size. An example of this can be found with the Toyota Mega Cruiser. This Humvee lookalike vehicle used a diesel inline 4-cylinder engine which is must smaller than the car engine in the Humvee. Because of the fuel and engine type, the Mega Cruiser produces more horsepower and torque compared to the Humvee. When it comes to price, diesel fuel is often more expensive than gasoline. Drivers also have several types of gasoline fuel available depending on budget and engine preference but there's only one type of diesel fuel available. Less is always more. Diesel engines are often more durable and require less repair because they operate with fewer components. Gasoline Clermont Toyota car engines can be found in almost every car under the sun while there aren't too many vehicles out there with diesel engines under their hoods. But, if you plan on driving on the highway more often than not, a diesel engine might prove more fuel efficient and you could repay your fuel investment over time. Still have questions about these two car engine types and how they work? Give Toyota of Clermont a call ast (352) 404 - 7000 or chat with us online!

Toyota of Clermont tips

Hydroplaning: What it is and what to do if you experience it

Have you ever experienced hydroplaning while driving in the rain? It's a frightening situation and not one we want to see any of our customers in. It can be dangerous, too, so it's helpful to know how to react if you do find yourself slipping and sliding next time the weather is wet. Toyota of Clermont is here to explain what it is, what to do if you experience it, and how to prevent it in the first place. What is hydroplaning? Hydroplaning is when your car loses control and spins or skids because it no longer has traction on the road. Basically, when you drive through water or on wet roads at high speeds, water pushes your front tires up off the road a little bit. This causes a thin film of water to form between the road and your car's tires, which means the tires are no longer gripping the road and have no traction. This is when you hydroplane and spin or skid out, and it can have serious and dangerous consequences. So what should you do if you find yourself slipping and sliding? Here are some easy tips to remember: Your natural reaction will be to hit the brakes, hard - but don't give into it. This will just cause you to slide more. Instead, remove your foot from the brakes to slow your vehicle and use your horn to alert other drivers of your situation and where you are. Next, if you have an anti-lock brake system, push the brakes gently and slowly. If you don't have anti-lock brakes, pump the brakes gently to prevent them from locking up. Turn your steering wheel in the direction of the slide. It sounds odd, but turning the opposite direction can actually cause overcorrection and leave you spinning even worse than before. If your back wheels are sliding left, turn left, too. Use small adjustments; avoid jerking your car's wheel. Toyota of Clermont's recommendations for avoiding this dangerous situation And finally, how can you prevent hydroplaning? Here are our recommendations: Keep your car tires in good shape - this means bringing your car into Toyota of Clermont for routine car maintenance and service. You'll want your tires to be in good general condition, inflated to the proper PSI, and to have enough tread depth to provide traction even when you're driving in wet weather. Slow down when it rains. The faster you're going, the less control you have over your car and the more likely you are to hydroplane and lose control of your Clermont Toyota. Don't drive through water. You never know how deep a puddle is and this increases your risk of hydroplaning (and it also puts you at risk of damaging your transmission, your exhaust system, and your electrical system). Drive in the interior lane of the road during rain. Water tends to pool in the exterior lanes, which means you'll have to drive through it and put your chances of hydroplaning at a higher level. Have questions or need Clermont car maintenance to get your ride ready to take on wet weather? Call us today at (352) 404-7001!

Clermont Toyota car care tips

10 common car maintenance terms you should know

Do you feel confident when you walk in the doors of our Clermont Toyota service center? We want you to - after all, your car is in good hands when you leave it with our trained Toyota technicians. However, we know that getting car maintenance can be a little nerve-wracking, even if it's routine car care. That's why we've taken the time to come up with a list of some of the most common car maintenance terms that will help you get a firmer grasp on what goes on under the hood so you can feel more confident when it comes to your car care. Get more confident about your car maintenance #1: Oil filter: This important car part plays a big role in keeping your engine running. The oil filter prevents any dirt, debris, or anything else that can be abrasive from getting into your engine (where it can do pretty costly damage). This is why it's key to replace the oil filter routinely. #2: Catalytic converter: Your catalytic converter plays an essential role in both your safety and your environmental responsibility. It's part of the exhaust system and basically, it converts toxic gases into safer emissions before they're released by your vehicle. #3: Air filter: Your air filter is part of the air intake system, and this part prevents dirt and debris from getting sucked into the engine when it pulls air in. #4: OEM: OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer and applies to car parts. If you see an OEM part, it means that the automaker who manufactured your vehicle made the part and it's not an aftermarket part. #5: Spark plug: In order to get your car up and running, ignition has to take place... and that means you need a spark to create the internal combustion that gets your engine going. This is where your spark plugs come in - they provide that spark. #6: Fuel pump: Your fuel pump is the car part responsible for moving fuel from the gas tank to the engine, so it's critical for performance. #7: Alternator: Your alternator also plays a big role in getting your car started as this part is responsible for keeping your car battery charged and ready to go. It also powers ignition and your car's electrical systems when it's turned on. #8: Timing belt: The timing belt helps to ensure that critical parts are moving in sync with one another, which in turn ensures that valves open and close when they should to keep your engine working in top condition. #9: Head gasket: The head gasket acts as a seal between the cylinder head and engine block. It seals off the internal combustion that takes place in your engine when you start your car, and also prevents coolant and oil from mixing inside the engine (which would be a big problem). #10: Dipstick: The dipstick is a slim metal rod with a handle that you use to check your oil's level and condition. Basically, this rod reaches down into the oil reservoir and when you pull it out of the engine, you can check both the level and how clean the oil is to ensure your car can still efficiently run. Electricity. It shocks you when you take your clothes out of the dryer, powers your home, and could be the sole power source of your new Toyota MR2? Vehicle electrification has been an ongoing trend in the automotive industry but has recently accumulated a lot of steam. Toyota began their electric car journey back in 1997 with the introduction of the Clermont Toyota Prius to the world. Since then Toyota has stayed true to its electrification roots by constantly improving the quality of its hybrid vehicles and expanding the drivetrain type to vehicles across the lineup. But, what's the next step? Where do we go from here? Enter the Toyota MR2 It's well-known by now that we exist in an age where nostalgia is king. It's the reason why we've seen the revival of the iconic Clermont Toyota Supra and recently the reintroduction of the Toyota Venza. Everyone loves a good revival and return story. Combine that with Toyota's promise to electrify every vehicle on its lineup by 2025 and you get quite a few interesting theories on what might happen next. One popular theory is that the Toyota MR2 is due for a return and we can definitely see it. This model was an 80s mid-engine icon that many drivers have fond memories of. The body style was unique along with its engine layout being one of Toyota's only vehicles with a mid-engine design. The storm is right for a return of this iconic Toyota sportscar, but will it return as an electric car? Here are some of the speculative points surrounding this Clermont Toyota electric car theory: The Toyota MR2, if revived, would likely return as a light and agile sportscar. It's difficult to tell whether or not the rehashed model will be designed with a mid placed engine or if it will be redesigned entirely. It's likely that the MR2 would be electrified in some form or another. Toyota has pledged to electrify its entire lineup by 2025. This doesn't mean that the MR2 will be an entirely electric car. It could return as a hybrid as opposed to something that's fully electric powered. Akio Toyoda himself has expressed the desire for a triumvirate of sportscar on the lineup and two slots of three have already been filled. With the Supra and the 86 already in production, it would make sense for the MR2 to re-emerge. Like the Supra and 86, it's likely that the MR2 could be co-developed with another auto manufacturer. As to who, your guess is as good as ours. The starting MSRP of the alleged Clermont electric car Toyota MR2 will likely be $40,000-$45,000 and be released sometime around 2024. This could fluctuate depending on options and the drivetrain type that Toyota chooses. Shop Electrified Toyota Models at Toyota of Clermont Today!
