After all, oftentimes they aren't entirely off base or wrong for that matter. Take the Tundra rumors, for example. Rumors had been circulating for months about the hybrid twin-turbo V6 drivetrain and that's exactly what we got. Not to say you should believe every single rumor out there, but some of them do, in fact, hold water. Now, this latest rumor, we're not so sure. As you probably well know, there have been countless rumors surrounding the possibility of a Toyota MR2 return. Akio Toyoda is quoted wanting to turn the 86 and Supra duo into a triumvirate of sportscars and a third model has yet to be determined. A New Toyota MR2 Would be Sick If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. It's with that sentiment that we should approach these rumors. Truly, a new Clermont Toyota MR2 would be enough to make any one of us jump for joy. But, like we said, too good to be true. But, before we draw conclusions, let's look at what we know so far and add this new rumor. So far, we know: Toyota is aiming to have three mainstay sports models on its lineup. The MR2 is a popular nameplate for Toyota and a likely candidate for the position. Its unique mid-engine design is ripe for experimentation. Toyota made headlines with its future BEV plan. However, they only announced the bZ4X as a current production model. It's possible that a Clermont Toyota MR2 BEV could be in the works. It'd be one hell of a way to expand the EV lineup. Now, for the current rumors. They come from a Japanese website called Spyder7 that publishes pieces related to automotive news. Here's what the piece discusses: A large component of this piece is that the new Clermont Toyota MR2 could be a collaboration vehicle. This is fairly sound given the fact that Toyota's only other 2 sports models are both collaboration projects. The 86 with Subaru and the Supra with BMW. However, the piece claims that the partnership candidates are Lotus and Porsche. While it sounds ridiculous on its face, let's think for a moment why Toyota would want to partner with these 2 companies. Not only are they acclaimed sportscar manufacturers, but they also specialize in mid-engine vehicle architecture. Toyota partnered with BMW for the Supra because of their expertise with inline 6 engines, why wouldn't they partner with modern craftspeople to more accurately revive the MR2? The piece, while sounding a little too specific, also levels that the new Clermont Toyota MR2 will use plug-in hybrid technology mated to a 2.8 or 3.0-liter V6. Allegedly, the new MR2 will look similar to a 2004 Geneva Motor Show concept called the Toyota Alessandro Volta. All in all, these rumors could be totally bogus. But, don't count it out just yet. A World Record for the Toyota Mirai As we said, the Mirai has already garnered an impressive accolade of being one of the first mass-production hydrogen fuel cell vehicles out there. Unfortunately, it's not widely available in the Clermont area yet, but we can't wait for it to be. Especially hearing this news, we're ecstatic. The Mirai accomplished something an ICE engine could only dream of. It drove 845 miles. Without a single refueling along the way. We know. Impressive. Here's some more info on this amazing story: The Clermont Toyota Mirai was piloted by 2 people, Wayne Gerdes and Bob Winger, over the course of 2 days in an official attempt. This was not an amateur attempt to break a world record, this was an all-in attempt by pros. Their journey began at the Toyota Technical Center in California and the pair managed to log 473 miles in a single day. The next day they returned to the Technical Center and logged an additional 372 miles for a total of 845. About 5.65 kilograms (12.45 pounds) of fuel was consumed during the journey and there was never a need to refuel even though 12 fueling stations were passed along the way. Such an impressive feat for an impressive ride. The Mirai now has a Guinness World Record to add to its ongoing accolades and it's just getting started. A Deeper Look at the Record-Breaking Toyota Mirai The Clermont Mirai is one of the only mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the road. Because of the currently limited fueling infrastructure, Toyota only sells the Mirai in California where there is a substantial number of hydrogen fueling stations. Here are some quick facts about this awesome ride: The Mirai gets an estimated 74 combined MPGe and has an estimated range of 402 miles. As to how 845 was achieved without any refueling, that definitely warrants some digging. Zero emissions are emitted from the vehicle as it uses hydrogen fuel cells for power. Refueling only takes about 5 minutes from an empty to full tank and Toyota is even offering a $15,000 free fuel incentive to new Mirai drivers. Maybe we're hunting for Easter eggs, and each new reveal is an egg found or maybe it's like Christmas morning with presents stacked high. Now a New Toyota Tacoma Yes, Toyota fam. The Tundra was revealed to us very recently, but our impatience and excitement has us screaming for news on a new taco. Luckily, with the Tundra undergoing a metamorphosis, it's likely that the Clermont Toyota Tacoma isn't too far behind. It's been consistent for a number of years and the time is ripe for a shake up. We haven't received any official news regarding the possible upcoming model, but that hasn't stopped the internet and other automotive industry journalists from offering up their 2 cents. Here are a few things we might see happen with the Clermont Toyota Tacoma soon: It's likely that the new Tacoma will have new engine options to carry it into a new design generation. Currently, the compact Clermont pickup sports a V6 and a 4-cylinder engine as its options. With the Tundra sporting a twin-turbo V6 and an optional hybrid drivetrain, expect the Toyota Tacoma to do something similar. This coincides with the point made above, but it's likely that new Tacoma will sport an optional hybrid drivetrain. Don't expect Toyota to turn the Tacoma in a total BEV just yet. The new Clermont Tundra is getting a redesign inside and out and it's only fair to assume that a new Toyota Tacoma will follow the same route. As to whether that will look similar in scope to its larger sibling is unknown. The suspension sysytem of a new Clermont Toyota Tacoma is likely to be overhauled as well. What's the Deal with the New Toyota Sequoia? As we said, the new Sequoia hasn't received any official news or even a teaser in the slightest. There's no word on whether or not a new model generation is coming or if it's being shelved. We've already lost the Land Cruiser, the Yaris, and many suspect the C-HR is leaving as well. While many digital sleuths are able to decode when models will be leaving the lineup, the Sequoia remains a big mystery. We can't deny our love for this big beefy boy Toyota SUV, but we'd be lying if we said this SUV has a very storied past. The Sequoia has always been an odd duck in the Toyota lineup here in Clermont. The new Toyota Sequoia occupies a spot between the 4Runner and the Tundra which is an odd one. It's got the power of a full-sized pickup at its back but adopts the body of an oversized SUV. From an off-roading standpoint, the Clermont new Toyota Sequoia performs similarly to the Tundra, but definitely isn't packing all the customizable possibilities of its pickup truck sibling due to its lack of a bed. It's likely that if a new Sequoia were to hit the lineup it would include elements similar to its newly revealed sibling. Expect the twin-turbo V6 to make an appearance and a highly powerful and fuel-efficient and hybrid drivetrain to boot. The styling will also likely be similar to that of the Tundra. Angular, highly stylish, futuristic, and rugged all wrapped in one large-scale SUV.
