Essential Tips for Preventing Car Theft

The holidays are a joyous time of the year. Lights adorn houses and streets, people are out in full force to secure the perfect gift, and happiness is in the air (along with the scent of cookies and baked goods). All in all, the holiday season is really great But, it's also a time that you, as a driver and vehicle owner, need to be careful. During the holiday season, theft is a very common occurrence that we often forget to stay diligent about. With many expensive items in your vehicle plus expensive parts on your vehicle itself, car theft becomes a more real possibility with each outing you go on. While we don't want this to deter you from enjoying this happy season, we at Toyota of Clermont believe that being prepared is important and will keep your vehicle and belongings safe. Check out our tips and tricks for preventing car theft this holiday season! Preventing Car Theft is Easier Than You'd Think The holiday season is the prime time for car theft. Think about it, you're out and about, traveling to different places more frequently. Plus, you're loading your vehicle with a variety of different and expensive products that are just ripe for the taking. Add that with the fact that so many others will be following your lead and you have the perfect scenario for committing theft. Luckily, there a number of measures you can take to ensure that your Clermont Toyota ride and belongings remain yours during the holidays. ALWAYS Lock Your Car Whether you're driving or you're parked in a parking lot checking out your newly purchased gifts, you should lock your doors. This is your first line of defense against thieves looking to nab your vehicle or your purchases. You should especially make sure to lock your vehicle before you leave it to go into a store. Leaving your belongings and Clermont Toyota vehicle unattended is risky as it is, but it's even riskier if you don't lock your vehicle's doors. Install Anti-Theft Devices One of the best ways to prevent car theft is to install devices aimed at preventing theft. Apart from your vehicle's included locks, you can install steering wheel locks, locks for your Clermont Toyota's wheels, additional vehicle alarms, GPS tracking, and more. These devices vary in price and function so you can customize your vehicle's security system. Hide Your Belongings Apart from actual car theft, there's also the threat that your personal belongings and holiday presents could be stolen if left in your vehicle. Instead of carrying everything to each store you visit, put your belongings and cargo in a concealed place. This will deter thieves by giving the impression that your vehicle is empty. Consider the Vehicle You Drive Car thieves often like to target older vehicles and there are several reasons why. Older Clermont Toyota vehicles are often engineered with less security and are, therefor, easier to steal. They're often constructed with rarer materials than modern vehicles and can be sold at a higher price when taken to a chop shop. If you drive a vehicle from the year 2000 or older, you may want to consider using additional security measures to prevent car theft. Have questions on how you can prevent car theft or want to shop for security devices? Visit Toyota of Clermont online and in-store at 16851 State Road 50 today!

spark plugs

What you need to know about spark plugs

Have you ever given any thought to exactly how your car gets up and going? As far as you know, you just turn the key and you're ready to hit the road. However, there are some complex processes taking place under the hood before you even hit the accelerator, and one of the biggest pieces of that puzzle is your set of spark plugs. Today our Clermont auto service techs are giving you the ins and outs of spark plugs and how they work, as well as how to troubleshoot them. What is a spark plug? Essentially, a spark plug is a small plug that plugs into your engine's cylinder. Its job is to ignite the fuel inside the cylinder so your engine can start. Fuel alone won't do it - that gas that you pumped into the fuel tank is pushed through the fuel lines into the fuel injectors, where it's then mixed with air that's been pulled into the engine via the air intake. When oxygen and fuel are properly mixed, the spark plugs "spark" to ignite the mixture and spur things into motion. Obviously, your spark plugs play a vital part in your car's performance so it's important to maintain and replace them when needed. You shouldn't have to spring for new ones too often - they usually last at least 30,000 miles and possibly more depending on the condition of your ride and your drive time habits. However, just like any other part they do wear out over time and stop working. Here are two main reasons you'll have to have new ones installed eventually. Buildup of deposits. The fuel and air mixture that your spark plugs ignites does cause a buildup on the plugs themselves, and this can cause to preignition (which in turn, means a jerky and unreliable starting process). A wider gap of space. Your spark plugs have to "jump" a gap of space to ignite the fuel-oxygen mixture and because of wear and tear, the gap gets bigger over time. This makes it harder for them to do their job of getting your car started. Signs you need Clermont auto service for this important part Luckily, it's not expensive or difficult to replace this very important part of your vehicle, especially if you let our Toyota of Clermont techs tackle the job. Here are a few signs you may be due for replacement spark plugs and should schedule an appointment at our Clermont Toyota service center: You notice your fuel efficiency is dropping for no apparent reason Your car is having trouble starting or won't start at all You feel like the car is sluggish or slow to respond when you accelerate The car seems "jerky" when you hit the gas You hear pinging or rattling noises under the hood - this is the sound of the spark plugs misfiring or firing at the wrong times Whatever the symptom, we've got you covered! Call Toyota of Clermont today at (352) 404-0001 and let our trained techs get you and your ride back out on the road in no time. We're open seven days a week at 16851 State Road 50!

Everything we Know About the 2020 Toyota GR Yaris

Going all the way back to 2017, we've known for some time that a new Gazoo Racing (GR) concept was in the works at Toyota (and we're not talking about the beloved GR Clermont Toyota Supra). It's been a while, but we finally have more information about the fabled Toyota GR Yaris! Believe it or not, hatchbacks make excellent racing vehicles and Toyota has taken one of its most compact models and turned up the heat. While we have the sporty Toyota Corolla Hatchback in the current lineup, this new model has us with visions of checkered flags and finish lines dancing in our heads. While we don't know many of the more specific features of this new vehicle, we do have some new information to reveal that will have you just as excited as we are! News About the New 2020 Toyota GR Yaris New Body Style New images of the Clermont Toyota GR Yaris have been revealed and there's no camo! This means we can discern the exact looks of the new Yaris and we are definitely impressed. The new Gazoo Racing concept revises the look of the current model year Yaris by removing two doors. The new GR Yaris opts for a coupe/hot hatch three door design that ups the sporty feel of this once compact economical hatchback. The front bumper fronts a much more aggressive look and stance that pairs well with some beefy wheels. The roof-line slopes smoothly right into a rear spoiler and dual-exhaust tips. New Engineering Features While these are just rumors and speculations, we believe that there's plenty of truth to these claims. The new Clermont Toyota GR Yaris will be powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine that could be paired with an all-wheel drive system. Some other rumored, but very notable, features include a manual gearbox, a drifting-friendly handbrake lever, and even an intercooler water spray button. This system is used on many racing vehicles to better regulate the temperature of the motor and increase output power. If the rumors are true, the Clermont Toyota GR Yaris will have this function included as an OEM system. New Interior Features While the interior remains largely similar to the sedan counterpart of this Toyota model, there could easily be a change between now and the official reveal date of this mighty racer. So far, we can see that the new GR Yaris will include new GR badging throughout the cabin along with button functions for some of the new engineering features we listed above. It's unclear if the interior will include a sportier look in the future, but we still enjoy it anyway!   The new Clermont Toyota GR Yaris sounds like an amazing little racer that we can't wait to welcome to our lot. More information on this vehicle is rumored to be revealed on January 10th and we'll be sure to keep you updated on any new information we receive. Until then, feel free to shop our great selection of Toyota Yaris vehicles here at Toyota of Clermont. Shop us online or in store at 16851 State Road 50!

Toyota of Clermont tips

Simple tips for driving in the snow

Will your holiday travels be taking you north this winter? It's exciting to get out of town, especially to see friends and family and celebrate the season with a little cold snap. However, if you're heading further north than Jacksonville, there's a chance you may see a little (or a lot, depending on where you do) of snow during your drive time. Toyota of Clermont is here with simple tips for driving in the snow to keep you and yours safe all holiday season, no matter where your travels take you! 5 Clermont Toyota tips for driving in the snow Tip #1: Slow it down. You'll want to drop your speed significantly when driving in the snow, especially if it's actively snowing. Snowfall can impede your view of the road and your surroundings, and snow is slippery. Slowing your speed will give you more control over your vehicle and lessen your chances of spinning out and losing traction. Tip #2: Take turns slowly and carefully. Taking turns when driving in the snow can be tricky, especially if you drive a front-wheel drive car. Your back tires can easily slide out if you take a turn too fast and that can lead to you losing control of your vehicle. Make sure you slow down before a turn, refrain from jerking the wheel too hard, and use your turn signal to indicate your movements. Tip #3: Avoid sudden movements. Sudden movements like hard braking, quick acceleration, and turning the wheel too fast can all lead to a loss of control when driving in the snow. Keep  your turns smooth and slow, press the accelerator gradually, and learn how to slowly and evenly apply the brakes to bring your car to a stop without spinning out. Tip #4: Navigate hills with care. Driving on hills is also tricky in the snow. You don't want to power up the hill with a lot of acceleration as you can easily lose control when things even out at the top. You also don't want to stop on the hill at any point as you can start to slide backward. Take the hill slowly but steadily, keeping a constant speed without any jerky steering movements until you hit the top. Tip #5: Leave extra space. Leave extra space between your car and other cars - you may need more time to brake or make maneuvers to avoid an accident, so extra space means extra time. Prep your car for winter driving at our Clermont Toyota service center And don't forget to ensure that your car is in the right shape to take on driving in the snow. Namely, you'll want our Clermont Toyota service techs to examine your tires and make sure they're up to the job, as well as your brake system and the fluids under your hood (you don't want them to freeze). Get your car prepped and ready for holiday travels with Toyota of Clermont! Our service center is open seven days a week at (352) 404-7001.

The Clermont Toyota luxury make began in the 1980s as a response to voluntary export restraints in Japan. Toyota's chairman at the time, Eiji Toyoda, decided that Toyota needed to create the world's best car. This was also meant to compete with several other auto-manufacturers creating luxury sub brands. The initial flagship was given the name F1. It was set to be designed for international markets and given a different V8 engine than the likes of the Celica, Supra, and Century models. Fun fact, in 1985 Toyota commissioned several researchers to conduct primary observation on Laguna Beach, California residents. This research, meant to record and observe the lifestyles of California residents, yielded some insight. Toyota, in a response to the research, decided that a new brand was needed to be introduced before their F1 concept would hit the market. It wasn't until 1986 that Toyota coined the Lexus brand name. This was done after compiling 219 possible names and settling on one, Alexis. However, Toyota executives were afraid the brand name would be confused with Alexis Carrington, a popular character on Dynasty. After removing the "a" and replacing the "i" with "u," Lexus was born. The Lexus LS 400 was the first Lexus vehicle to hit the streets of the U.S. after a $1 billion prototype testing of the F1 concept in 1989. Tire traction devices tips from Toyota of Clermont

A Guide on Tire Traction Devices and How They Work

Well, it's safe to say that winter is here. The temperatures are dipping, people are decorating their homes, and retail stores are more packed than ever. Winter is a wonderful time of the year, especially when you live in Clermont and don't have to deal with winter storms and bitter cold temperatures. But, there are some of us that are likely to venture of north this holiday season and that means you'll have to get your ride prepared for what it's about to face. Most of the vehicles we sell here at Toyota of Clermont use front or rear wheel drive and, while they can tackle most elements, snow can pose a bit of an issue to those drivetrains. It's not likely that you're going to go purchase a 4WD or AWD SUV or sedan right before the holidays. So, what are you to do? Luckily, there are tire traction devices at your disposal! If you're unsure of what these are, don't worry! Toyota of Clermont is here with a comprehensive guide on what tire traction devices are, how they work, and the different types available to you. The Ins and Outs of Tire Traction Devices What Are They? Clermont Toyota tire traction devices are tools that drivers can use to help their tires achieve a better grip on the road when driving in difficult conditions like snow and mud. These devices attach to your actual tire and work in conjunction with your tread to deliver a safer driving experience to you. Most two-wheel drive vehicles use these as power only comes from two wheels which could lead to spin outs when in inclement conditions. Vehicles that use drivetrains like 4WD and AWD deliver power to all their wheels and usually don't need these devices, but they could still benefit from their use. Here are some of different types available to drivers: Tire Chains: Tire traction tools like tire chains are the most commonly used and widely available instruments to provide better grip for your car. They probably look unfamiliar to residents of Clermont, but people in northern states know them well. They're actual chains that drivers put on their tires. They help grip the road and cut through snow. GoClaws: This type of traction device uses spikes to enhance your tires' grip on the road. They're installed on the tire using straps that attach to the "corners" of the tires. AutoSocks: This new technology is a great alternative to using tire chains or spikes. AutoSocks use textile based technology that wraps around your entire tire to help you grip the road more evenly. Tire Spikes: Compared to tire chains, tire spikes provide a much cleaner look and are easier to install. Most spikes are installed as one piece on the front face of the tire and the spike settle into the tread. Traction Mats: If you've wandered into inclement territory and get stuck without spikes or chains, traction mats are there to get you out of it. Drivers only need lay these on the ground in front of their tires to give them something to grip when accelerating. They can help you out of thick mud or snow easily if you don't have other tire traction devices on hand in your Clermont Toyota vehicle.   Have questions about using tire traction devices? Give Toyota of Clermont a call at (352) 404 - 7000 today!
