The Toyota Highlander is already known for being one of the sleekest SUVs out there. It's family-oriented, sure, and decked out with the latest and greatest safety technology to give you the peace of mind you deserve when you have precious cargo in the backseat. However, it's also sophisticated, polished, and modern both inside and out. Well, Toyota decided to take its design one step further and release a special edition model in the upcoming year. Meet the latest Clermont Toyota special edition The all-new 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Bronze Edition will arrive at dealerships sometime later this year, bringing an even edgier option to drivers seeking a family-friendly solution. It's a special edition, mind you, so it's likely that there won't be too many of them sold (all the more reason to jump on it as soon as it arrives). Here are some of the details of what we're expecting out of this Clermont Toyota SUV: A hybrid drivetrain, as noted, as well as front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Bronze accents applied liberally inside and out. The outside will boast new 18" bronze wheels, while the interior will showcase bronze stitching, illuminated doorsills, badging, and other accents. A redesigned interior with mid-century modern flare integrated into the SofTex seats. Two new paint colors: Cement and Wind Chill Pearl. And not only that, this new Toyota Highlander will come standard with some pretty excellent features. You can expect to find: A digital rearview mirror A hands-free power liftgate A 1500W power outlet Rain-sensing windshield wipers Ambient lighting in the dash A power driver's seat that's 10-way adjustable, as well as passenger seats with height and tilt adjustments And did we mention the performance capabilities that you'll have when you get behind the wheel? As noted, this new Toyota SUV is all-wheel drive, and it has a separate rear-mounted electric motor that powers the back wheel exclusively. It has no mechanical connection between the transmission and rear wheels to improve understeering and prevent your front wheels from slipping when you accelerate in all-wheel drive. You'll also be able to tackle uneven or slippery terrain with ease. It's also incredibly fuel-efficient. You'll get a high-efficiency 2.5L 4-cylinder engine under the hood with two electric motors, all of which results in 36 mpg fuel efficiency (and a lot of saved gas, money, AND natural resources). Toyota has released two side-by-side images of the wheels of the new trucks and there are a few things we can determine. In one image, the Toyota Tacoma the wheel is attached to is painted a highlighter/neon yellow and there's a TRD cap on the wheel. If this tells us anything, it's that Toyota is likely going to release a new paint color option for it's TRD line and it's likely to be this yellow seen here. In the other, we see a bronze colored wheel attached to a white and/or silver new Toyota Tacoma. While the paint color is likely nothing new, we can see that the "TOYOTA" logo on the wheel is an older/vintage design. Earlier this week we dropped the news that Toyota has been hard at work patenting a brand-new turbocharged V8 engine. For what, we have no idea. However, we do know that it'll likely go in one Toyota and one Lexus and that it'll be a twin-turbo setup. We've discussed turbocharged engines in the past, but today we're diving a bit deeper into the logistics of a twin-turbo configuration and exactly what that could mean for your drive time. Check it out! How is a twin-turbo different from a turbocharged engine? A turbocharged engine - as you probably already know - is an engine that uses turbine power and forced induction to push extra compressed air into the combustion chamber of the engine. This extra air means that extra fuel also has to be pushed in so the fuel/air ratio can be maintained, the extra fuel burns faster than it would in a normally aspirated engine, and voila - this results in a boost of power to your ride. You won't find this type of engine in any old car, either - it's usually found in sports cars like the Toyota Supra or larger trucks and SUVs. OK, so what's a twin-turbo engine then? Basically, it's exactly what it sounds like. It's when an engine has two turbochargers pushing extra compressed air into the combustion chamber to get the "boost". The turbochargers can be different sizes and can be laid out in different configurations to get the final effect you want. Let's take a look at the three most common types of layouts so you can better understand their benefits. Three types of twin-turbo layouts Parallel twin-turbo engines lay out similarly sized turbochargers in a parallel design. In this setup, each turbocharger gets half of the gases. It's best used in "v" engines (V6 and V8) because then each turbocharger can be assigned to one cylinder bank, which cuts down on the amount of exhaust piping needed for the system. This setup also reduces lag, a common issue in turbocharged vehicles, because it uses two smaller turbochargers instead of just one large one. However, we do know that it'll likely go in one Toyota and one Lexus and that it'll be a twin-turbo setup. We've discussed turbocharged engines in the past, but today we're diving a bit deeper into the logistics of a twin-turbo configuration and exactly what that could mean for your drive time. A turbocharged engine - as you probably already know - is an engine that uses turbine power and forced induction to push extra compressed air into the combustion chamber of the engine. This extra air means that extra fuel also has to be pushed in so the fuel/air ratio can be maintained, the extra fuel burns faster than it would in a normally aspirated engine, and voila - this results in a boost of power to your ride. You won't find this type of engine in any old car, either - it's usually found in sports cars like the Toyota Supra or larger trucks and SUVs. OK, so what's a twin-turbo engine then? Just when you think you have things figured out, the universe sends you a little surprise to make you check yourself. The Engine Will Likely Go in a Lexus Model Being so wrapped up in Toyota models here at Toyota of Clermont, we often forget about Toyota's luxurious little sibling, Lexus. Toyota's luxury brand is highly sought-after and desirable to drivers everywhere and it's an experimental playground. This is where Toyota plans to develop and patent self-driving technology, after all. This engine, being so overpowered, could be featured in Lexus' F (Flagship) line of performance vehicles in the near future. Most models currently use a 5.0L V8 so it wouldn't be surprising to see a supercharged version. It Could be Used in the Tundra or a New Land Cruiser Wait, wait, wait, hear us out. This new super-charged engine could make it's way into the Clermont Toyota Tundra or possibly a new North American Land Cruiser. Yes, this is heavily contradictory to just about everything we've told you about the upcoming Toyota truck, but think about it. Most other automotive brands are expanding their truck lineups to include hybrid and electric versions and decreasing engine sizes in the name of better fuel efficiency. Toyota could be taking a step in the other direction to keep the heavy engine segment alive in the truck world. But, the configuration in the patent, what's known as a Hot-V, is typically featured in luxury and performance vehicles (think Porsche, Cadillac, Aston Martin, etc.). While we're not saying that the Clermont Toyota Tundra is undeserving of a V8 engine like that, it wouldn't make much sense from a financial point. Plus, Toyota confirmed that the truck lineup will be seeing electrification soon. Bringing a powerhouse V8 engine back into the equation wouldn't seem like the right move.
