The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the most iconic when it comes to Toyota. It holds a world-wide reputation for being extremely capable and one of the coolest vehicles around. Unfortunately, because of its high sticker price and lackluster fuel efficiency scoring, the Cruiser is doomed to be retired in North America. For now, anyway. But, globally, the Toyota Land Cruiser will continue to do what it does best. While we're waving goodbye to the Land Cruiser here in Clermont, we can't help but feel a tad envious of other places A) still producing the Land Cruiser and B) the Land Cruiser models those places can use. Land Cruisers Exclusive to Elsewhere Technically on this list we could have included the current North American 200 Series Toyota Land Cruiser (because it's going bye bye), but since we've had that model here in Clermont since the mid-2000s, we'll go ahead and gloss it over. Here are some iconic Land Cruiser models you're going to wish would make their way this side of the globe: Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series - South Africa, South America, Australia, etc. The 70 Series Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser is an instant classic and you can tell from a first glance. The 70 Series contains two models, the 76 and the 79. For the 76 Toyota Land Cruiser, it sports the boxy body of a typical Cruiser but evokes 80s vibes that we're totally here for. It has a 4.5-liter V8 under the hood and 4x4 drivetrain that makes it a true off-roading beast. Its counterpart, the 79, uses a similar engine but instead of using a wagon body design it adds a truck bed to the mix. Yeah, seriously. Buyers can choose between and single and double cab, depending on the amount of storage space/utility they need, and it still includes 4x4 drivetrain. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado - Japan, Europe, Australia, Asia The Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a modern model that closely resembles the 200-Series of North America, but it's known here as the Lexus GX. The Prado is currently in its 4th generation (since 2009) and contains a great many options. Over 6 engine options, 5 transmission types, and a variety of interior features are also available. Recent spy photos we saw here at Toyota of Clermont show a vehicle believed to be a new Toyota Land Cruiser series, but it does look eerily familiar to the Prado and could just be a facelifted version to be released soon. The Toyota Land Cruiser is iconic globally and, while it's being retired at Toyota of Clermont, we're confident that it will make its way back to North America in time. Earlier this week we dropped the news that Toyota has been hard at work patenting a brand-new turbocharged V8 engine. For what, we have no idea. However, we do know that it'll likely go in one Toyota and one Lexus and that it'll be a twin-turbo setup. We've discussed turbocharged engines in the past, but today we're diving a bit deeper into the logistics of a twin-turbo configuration and exactly what that could mean for your drive time. Check it out! How is a twin-turbo different from a turbocharged engine? A turbocharged engine - as you probably already know - is an engine that uses turbine power and forced induction to push extra compressed air into the combustion chamber of the engine. This extra air means that extra fuel also has to be pushed in so the fuel/air ratio can be maintained, the extra fuel burns faster than it would in a normally aspirated engine, and voila - this results in a boost of power to your ride. You won't find this type of engine in any old car, either - it's usually found in sports cars like the Toyota Supra or larger trucks and SUVs. OK, so what's a twin-turbo engine then? Basically, it's exactly what it sounds like. It's when an engine has two turbochargers pushing extra compressed air into the combustion chamber to get the "boost". The turbochargers can be different sizes and can be laid out in different configurations to get the final effect you want. Let's take a look at the three most common types of layouts so you can better understand their benefits. Three types of twin-turbo layouts Parallel twin-turbo engines lay out similarly sized turbochargers in a parallel design. In this setup, each turbocharger gets half of the gases. It's best used in "v" engines (V6 and V8) because then each turbocharger can be assigned to one cylinder bank, which cuts down on the amount of exhaust piping needed for the system. This setup also reduces lag, a common issue in turbocharged vehicles, because it uses two smaller turbochargers instead of just one large one. Sequential twin-turbo engines have two turbochargers, but one is used for low speeds and one (or sometimes, both) is used for high speeds. A problem that you sometimes see in turbocharged cars is that it's difficult to get that boost of power if your RPMs are low. By using a small turbocharger for low speeds and a larger turbocharger for high speeds, this problem is erased. Series twin-turbo engines have the turbochargers set up in a sequence or series. The output from the first turbocharger is then further compressed by the second turbocharger for a serious pressure buildup and a large boost of power. We don't know just yet what Toyota has in store for us with their new turbocharged V8 engine, but hopefully we'll find out soon enough. Fans of the full-sized pickup have been speculating for quite some time as to when a new model will be released, what it will look like, how it will be engineered, and so on. The New Toyota Tundra. On a Need to Know Basis The arrival of the new Toyota Tundra has been surrounded by rumors and speculation regarding just about every aspect of it. It hasn't been officially announced and spy shots we've seen have only given us so much to go on. But, we do know a few things and have a few credible rumors to go off of so far. Say Goodbye to That V8 Engine One sticking rumor we've run into quite a bit is that the Clermont new Toyota Tundra is likely going to ditch the 5.7L V8 engine that's been a mainstay under the hood. The Tundra has used its V8 engine for years with little to no adjustments made. While it affords power and a super capable amount of towing (it towed a space shuttle), it does mean that fuel efficiency has taken a huge back seat. Many full-sized pickups out there have been engineered to be capable fuel sippers and Toyota is likely to follow suit soon. Hybrid or EV? Another ongoing rumor is that the new Toyota Tundra could arrive in Clermont with a hybrid or pure electric drivetrain. Electrification has grown exponentially popular in the automotive world and many manufacturers are adding these features to their full sized lineup in the future. Not only that, Toyota included some bombshell news in their press release for the bZ4X. Stating that electrification was coming for the truck lineup. In what capacity, we don't know. We also don't know how soon we expect that to happen. But, the introduction of the 3rd generation sounds like a pretty good time. Expect it to be More Capable Despite the new Toyota Tundra possibly doing away with the consistent V8 engine, expect it to still be super capable if not more so. A great piece of evidence is in the wheels. The current generation Tundra uses 5-lug attached wheels and spy photos of the new model show a 6-lug attachment system. Adding additional lugs most often means that the wheel needs additional strength, ergo more power behind the engine and on the tongue of the tow hitch. Some Background on the New Toyota Aygo The Toyota Aygo might not be on your radar and that's likely because it's exclusively a European-sold model. It was first marketed and sold in 2005 and has been a staple of the European "city car" segment ever since. In North America we'd likely equate this Clermont new Toyota with the Yaris and other compact vehicles. It sports a small inline 3-cylinder engine that gets 72 horsepower and 69 lb/ft of torque and can achieve a top speed of 98 mph. Obviously, many would laugh at these figures this side of the Atlantic, but for commuting around the narrow streets of many European cities, the Aygo is a godsend. North America could aptly be described as a commuter country where many major centers for business and leisure are far spaced. In many European countries this isn't the case and a compact vehicle that can traverse city streets is what many drivers go for. Especially when they can get up to 61 mpg, like the Aygo. The Toyota Supra. A legend in its own right and a truly iconic sportscar. This Toyota coupe has had quite the historical ride and follow up resurrection that was long overdue. In honor of this iconic moniker, we at Toyota of Clermont are chronicling the journey of the Supra, so far. Check out this car's history and more below! Where the Toyota Supra has Been and Where it's Going Beginning in 1978 the Clermont Toyota Supra was introduced to the world and since then we've been graced with 5 generations. Here are the finer points of the Supra's history on and off the Toyota lineup. Gen 1) A40/A50 The first generation of the Toyota Supra was actually born as an offshoot of the Toyota Celica that was widely popular at the time. In fact, the Toyota Supra carried the name Celica Supra for a while before getting its own moniker. For the Japanese market the Supra was known as the Celica XX and Celica Supra in the states. Some features of the original iteration included a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission, four-link rear suspension, MacPherson strut front suspension, and disc brakes. This generation lasted until 1980. Gen 2) A60 For the second generation, the Clermont Toyota Supra was introduced in 1981 and was available in either a Performance (P-Type) and Luxury (L-Type) submodel. Mechanically, these two models were identical but presented different exterior looks. The L-Type made use of bougie aesthetics with leather seating, digital instrumentation, and more. The P-Type upped the horsepower significantly and included different exterior styling to give off speedier vibe. Gen 3) A70 Jumping to 1986, the third generation Clermont Toyota Supra, the A70, was made available. This is generation in which the Supra went solo and dropped the "Celica" from its name. The A70 was engineered with 200 horsepower and a 3.0L inline six cylinder under the hood along with a rear-wheel drivetrain. Customers could also add an optional turbocharger if they were looking for a little extra kick. Not only was this model more powerful, it also included features like 3-channel ABS, Acoustic Control Induction System, and double wishbone suspension. Gen 4) A80 What was to be the final generation of the iconic Toyota Supra. The A80 generation  was offered with two engine options including a naturally aspirated inline-six engine that repped 210 horsepower and a twin-turbocharged that could push 276 horsepower. This generation came equipped with integral features like dual airbags, traction control, and more. But, it was built lighter so as to achieve higher speeds. Unfortunately, due to declining sales and lack of enthusiasm from the North American market, the Supra was retired. For the moment. Gen 5) GR Supra Fast forward to today and you have the new Clermont GR Toyota Supra that was introduced in 2019. This collaborative project with BMW is based on the Z4. This new model Toyota sportscar is quite a step up aesthetically and engineering-wise from its predecessor and we're head over heels with how it turned out. One thing is the imminent arrival of the 2021 Toyota Mirai this December! The world's first production hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle is set to arrive at dealerships with new style, new features, and huge amount of alternative fuel sourced swag. Toyota of Clermont is here with the latest and official details on the upcoming Mirai so you can get ready for its arrival in December! The Toyota Mirai Coming Soon It's been an interesting journey for the Mirai. The world's first hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicle arrived to dealerships five years ago with mixed perception due to its design and the lack of proper fueling infrastructure. Toyota is aiming to change that with a reinvigorated design that speaks sporty luxury that will, in theory, drive enthusiasm and additional funding for hydrogen fueling stations in more places. Here are the key confirmed features you can expect to see on the Clermont Toyota Mirai: Basics The 2021 Toyota Mirai will be available in 2 trim grades, XLE and Limited. For the 2021 model year, the Mirai will adopt a whole new look featuring a rear-wheel drive platform, longer and wider stance, aerodynamic body design, and optional 20-inch wheels. It will be available paint color options like Oxygen White, Black, Supersonic Red, Heavy Metal, and Hydro Blue. Technology Every trim grade of the Clermont Toyota Mirai will come equipped with a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen infotainment display. A 14 speaker JBL sound system with subwoofer and amplifier will be standard. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa all included. A Qi-wireless charging tray will also be standard on each trim grade. The XLE grade Toyota Mirai will come equipped with dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and manual rear seat sunshades. Limited grades will include a standard Bird's Eye View Camera along with Intelligent Park Assist and panoramic moonroof. Safety The Clermont Mirai will come equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+. This suite of safety features enhances existing programs and protocols. Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control has been improved to maintain a vehicle's length of distance between the Mirai and the vehicle in front. This feature can automatically slow your vehicle to 0 mph and gradually accelerate in speed until your chosen mph is reached. Pre-Collision System has also been improved to detect preceding bicyclists during the day and pedestrians in low light. The system can also detect other vehicles and pedestrians when performing a left-hand turn and will provide visual and auditory warnings in certain conditions. In fact we've often referred to this iconic off-roader as the king of consistency. For the better part of 11 years, the fifth model generation has been available at dealerships and commanding trails. While we at Toyota of Clermont are thoroughly enamored by the current model year, even we have to admit that change is long overdue for 4Runner. Whether it be now or later, a large-scale overhaul is due for the popular Toyota SUV and we've seen some rumors that seemingly confirm this. What Might Be in Store for a New Toyota 4Runner The Toyota 4Runner has been in its 5th generation since 2009 and many drivers are clamoring for a change to the body-on-frame SUV. While Toyota has not confirmed anything regarding a new generation 4Runner and what features it might have, many fans have been speculating a laundry list of changes they want to see happen. Engineering Toyota is rumored to be making large-scale changes to the engineering features in many Clermont models. Larger models like the Tundra and Toyota 4Runner have largely remained untouched but that could all change soon. After all, Toyota has vowed to offer some form of electrification in its vehicles in the near future. For the 4Runner, this could mean the introduction of a hybrid drivetrain. There's also an idea floating around that there could be several engine options available on the next generation Toyota 4Runner. It's also possible that Toyota could integrate a turbocharger or other options in a new generation. Exterior As with all generational shifts there's a dramatic exterior design overhaul. We expect nothing less for the Clermont Toyota 4Runner. But, what would that look like? More than likely, Toyota will retain the high-profile and muscular design of the current 4Runner. However, the front grille is likely to change along with the rear-end, and sides. Due to the popularity of enhanced special editions for this generation, the next generation 4Runner might include accessories like roof baskets, tow kits, and other off-roading gear standard. Interior Again, new generations mean large-scale changes to just about everything. The interior of the current generation Toyota 4Runner has received its fair share of complaints. For a new generation of this Clermont Toyota SUV you can likely expect to see new infotainment options, a wider array of upholstery materials to choose from, better stylistic elements, and better space distribution. Without a proper redesign for over a decade, it's time to give the full-sized pickup drivers what they want and that means a redesigned Tundra at Toyota of Clermont. While most of what we're about to share with you is speculative, we're sure you'll still be pretty hyped about the 2022 Toyota Tundra's arrival. Here are a few things you might see on the next rendition of Toyota's beloved full-sized pickup truck: Toyota will likely design the Tundra on it's new truck chassis, Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-F). High-strength steel will provide a stronger and lighter body-on-frame build for the Toyota truck. With a new chassis it's likely that the Clermont Toyota Tundra will adopt coil suspension springs in place of its current leaf springs on the rear axle. Improvements to both the chassis and suspension system means that the Tundra will likely improve on its current towing capacity and payload. This one's a big one! The Tundra might be getting an all-new engine layout. The Lexus LS 500, while a sports sedan, currently uses a twin-turbocharged V6. In Toyota's ongoing quest for electrifying its entire lineup by 2025, the Tundra could receive this engine along with hybrid drivetrain options. There's also talks of a smaller 3.5-liter V6 (the same engine as the Tacoma) being offered for the Tundra. The twin-turbo V6 can output 416 horsepower when mated with the LS 500. As with any major vehicle model overhaul, you can expect a number of aesthetic changes to be made to the Clermont Toyota Tundra. The exterior will likely receive a refreshing redesign that's edgier and futuristic. For the interior, the 2020 Highlander's 12-inch infotainment head unit will likely be offered along with more cabin space. Plus, expect to see Toyota Safety Sense equipped on the Tundra and include safety features like Advanced Radar Cruise Control, Automatic Braking, Lane Centering, and more. With the 2021 Toyota Tundra set to arrive sometime before this year is over, it's unlikely we'll see the 2022 model arriving earlier than end of next year. Convertibles have been offered for as long as we can remember, but their popularity hit significant highs in the late 80s with the release of the Mazda Miata. Convertible Design Factors It may sound a little odd that a vehicle manufacturer can't just yank the roof off one of their vehicle models and replace it with a foldable soft top. But, it's true. Cars rely on their roofing for structural integrity and removing that creates issues for the vehicle's body if not compensated for. That's why Clermont Toyota model designers have to do a complete design rework when considering adding a convertible option to the lineup. The body was must be refortified and tweaked to compensate for the structural reduction. A missing roof on a car also creates an inherent safety hazard. Drivers are more exposed to flying debris on the road and there's nothing to protect those in the cabin in the event the vehicle rolls over. Designers must also consider this aspect when redesigning the vehicle. Convertible Fuel Efficiency Factors Achieving peak fuel efficiency for a Clermont Toyota vehicle doesn't stop at the engine type or drivetrain.
