Again, none of this is confirmed, but the secret's out that the Toyota 86 is getting a refresh because it's Subaru-born twin, the BRZ, was unveiled with new style. Mechanically and stylistically the BRZ and Clermont Toyota 86 mirror one another and only vary when it comes to badging. Here's what we've gathered so far: An obvious change to the upcoming 86 is a refreshed exterior look. The front bumper will feature a more open grille design with striking headlights. This gives it almost an Aston-Martin esque look. The stance appears lower and sportier as well. In the engineering department, the Clermont 86 will likely be getting it's signature boxer engine back. This will be a 2.4-liter direct injection boxer 4-cylinder that reps 228 horsepower and 184 lb/ft of torque. While these ratings could change with the Toyota badging, they'll likely remain consistent. RWD will remain along with a front placed engine to achieve perfect weight balance. MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspensions return for 2022 along with some track-tuned improvements. Subaru has imbued the BRZ with its own safety suite of features and it's likely that Toyota will include a version of Toyota Safety Sense with the new Clermont Toyota 86. It's also been revealed that the BRZ will feature an improved braking system with enhanced stopping force. Some of the finer improvements include a better multimedia infotainment head-unit, a sporty and hella cool looking digital instrument cluster, and optional 6-speed manual and automatic with paddle shifter transmission choices. Soon The Toyota GR Yaris was announced for the 2020 model year during a time that seems infinitely far away and the world was stunned by Toyota's hit out of the park. The new Toyota GR Yaris is slated to be sold exclusively in international markets. Toyota did hear people's' cries and has responded with a Hot Hatch specifically for North America that should be coming soon. Here are a few speculative points to consider as you wait for the new Toyota GR Hot Hatch to arrive to our Clermont dealership. With the 2021 model year all but finalized it's likely that the GR Hot Hatch will be coming to our dealership sometime in either the 2022 model year or in 2023. Many automotive industry experts and sleuths believe it more likely that 2023 will be the year it finally arrives. But, a lot can change between now and then. Toyota has pledged that their entire lineup will contain an electrified option in some capacity (be that hybrid or BEV is up for debate), but that likely won't be true for the GR Hot Hatch. It's likely that this new Toyota will remain ICE exclusive. Horsepower figures are also up for debate, but many industry experts are speculating that the engine's output could clock in at either 161 or 261. Let's hope that first number is just a typo from one of our sources. It's also likely that the GR Hot Hatch will come permanently equipped with AWD as opposed to having a 2 wheel drive option. This is likely to maintain the sporty nature and stay true to hot hatch design. There's talk that there will be several trim grades up for grabs each coming with unique trim and style choices for drivers to choose from. However, this car part actually plays a critical role in your car's performance and keeps you, your vehicle, and everyone around you safe. What is the catalytic converter and why is it critical to performance? First, let's discuss what a catalytic converter is. This important car part actually takes the toxic gases and pollutants in your car exhaust and converts them into less harmful emissions. It does so via a redox reaction - basically a chemical reaction that alters the atoms - and ensures that you're not releasing said toxic pollutants into the air. Catalytic converters were first designed in France way back at the end of the 19th century, but they weren't introduced to the mainstream automotive market until the 1970s. In the 70s, the U.S. E.P.A. became more cognizant about emissions and decided that from 1975 on, catalytic converters would be required on all gasoline-powered vehicles in the United States. And not only that, but they would also become mandatory on buses, ships, trains, forklifts, motorcycles, mining equipment, and generators. Not-so-fun fact - catalytic converters are actually stolen off of cars pretty frequently. They're on the exterior of the vehicle, which makes them easy to snag, and they contain precious metals that thieves can sell for profit. Also, they do face issues from time to time. They can overheat if you're having issues with excess unburned gas (which could happen due to a bad oxygen sensor, etc.) or clog if you have a coolant or oil leak inside your engine. And whether your catalytic converter gets stolen or dies, you've got a problem on your hands. Without this part, your vehicle not only releases toxic emissions into the air but can also negatively affect your engine to the point of it dying altogether. A few weeks ago, we got the sad news that Toyota is officially retiring the iconic Toyota Land Cruiser (we're still devastated, tbh). However, this week we got some interesting and possibly good news - Toyota has trademarked a new SUV name that could possibly fill the hole that the Toyota Land Cruiser is leaving in the market. According to rumors, Toyota trademarked the name "Grand Highlander" and we're taking a deeper look at what this new development could mean for drivers. Will this new Toyota replace the Toyota Land Cruiser? As noted, the Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser is going to be put out to pasture after 2021. It's definitely had its day in the sun and Toyota is giving it one more year on the market before retiring it. The good news is that the 2021 model will lose the heavy V8 engine and feature a new V6 that's sporty and powerful. You'll also still be able to get your hands on the Heritage Edition, a limited-run model, and this year it'll offer three rows of seating instead of two (like the prior model). However, after 2021 you won't be able to drive home this iconic SUV (at least not here in the U.S.). That's why we're intrigued about the "Grand Highlander" trademark. Like we said, retiring the Toyota Land Cruiser is leaving a gap in their large SUV lineup. Could the Grand Highlander be Toyota's solution to the said hole? Here's what we think. If the Grand Highlander were introduced to the U.S. market, it could offer a larger alternative to the current Clermont Toyota Highlander. We love the current model - don't misunderstand us - but it's definitely a mid-size SUV. While it offers three rows of seating, the third row can be a bit cramped if you're back there for a long time. And if you put the third row to use, you cut down on your cargo space pretty significantly. What will the Grand Highlander look like? If Toyota were to design and produce a Grand Highlander, we imagine that it would be a larger and more spacious version of the current Clermont Toyota model. This would mean a redesigned back end for a more comfortable third row of passenger seats as well as a larger cargo area, even with the third row up. However, we think it would likely remain on the TNGA-K platform just like its sibling, and would probably boast the V6 engine that's going to be placed in the Land Cruiser for a powerful and sporty performance. It may even offer a hybrid option just like the current Toyota Highlander. We think - fingers crossed - it'll be similar to the current Lexus LX in terms of features, space, and performance. Not too long ago we at Toyota of Clermont were the bearer of bad news. When we shared with you that the idea to retire to the Toyota Land Cruiser was floating around, we never expected it to become reality. Unfortunately we're once again the bearer of bad news when we say that it's been confirmed that the historical Cruiser will be retired after the 2021 model year. Just like you, we're reaching for the tissue box. But, we have to report the news all the same. Check out the latest right here! Bidding Farewell to a True Legend What began as a military vehicle meant to tackle any number of terrain types has evolved repeatedly with an uncountable number of features in its catalog. The Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser has been a main staple of Toyota's lineup for decades and is hailed as one of the longest production nameplates out there. This Toyota SUV has always enjoyed a sustained popularity and there's never been doubt of its capability after all these years. However, supreme capability and history can't save the Toyota Land Cruiser from it's inevitable retirement. So, what happened? Why is Toyota retiring this Clermont classic? The answer lies mostly with drivers. Old Dog, New Tricks The truth behind the Land Cruiser's retirement may lie in it's lack of overall sales figures. In fact, the Cruiser only sold a dismal 3,536 units in 2019 and then the Coronavirus arrived and shook the automotive industry to its core. The Cruiser has become more of a niche ride as opposed to the mainstream powerhouse Toyota was hoping for. This is likely due to a few reasons: The Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser has been stagnant in its current 200 Series since 2008 and little has changed. This removes much incentive for many prospective drivers to get behind the wheel. Its price point is exceedingly high. The Cruiser, when all is said and done, can cost one around $90,ooo. This high of a price point commands many options and there are many drivers out there who would rather pay for something a little more luxurious in comparison. The engineering hasn't adapted either. Currently, the Cruiser borrows its 5.7L V8 engine from the Tundra and hasn't changed it once throughout its current generation. Consequently the Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser only reaps 14 combined mpg and burns gas faster than a match to lighter fluid. Yes, the Land Cruiser carries a legendary nameplate and historical adaptability, but it's time has come. But, there's a bit of a silver-lining. The Clermont Toyota Land Cruiser will continue to thrive in other global markets and it's Lexus counterpart, the LX, will continue to be sold in North America. There's also speculation that the Cruiser nameplate will be revived after a brief hibernation, much like the Venza did. After a few years of design and engineering tweaking the Land Cruiser just might return to North America (fingers crossed).
