Why are brake pads so important?
Brake pads are the part of the brakes system that apply pressure and friction to the rotors, which slows the wheel and allows you to safely come to a stop. Without them, you have reduced stopping power and also run the risk of doing damage to the brake rotors (and brake rotors are a LOT more expensive to replace than brake pads!). That's why it's so important to get routine Orlando car maintenance and keep an eye on them, or at least let our auto service techs do it!
How often should you schedule Orlando brake pads replacement? It depends on your drive time and HOW you drive, but typically it's about every 20,000 miles or so. You may need them sooner if you drive on hills or in mountainous areas a lot, hit stop and go traffic often, or have a heavy foot (ride your brakes).
Signs you need to schedule Orlando brake service for your brake pads
Luckily, if you're not great at remembering to schedule Orlando car maintenance on a routine basis there are signs that you need to replace your brake pads, and we're putting them all out on the table!
- You hear a squealing noise! If you hear a weird squealing noise when you hit the brakes, then you might need to schedule Orlando brake pads replacement. This is typically caused by the wear indicator, which is a special piece of metal that touches the rotor when the pads are getting too thin. It makes the squealing noise to alert you that you need brake service!
- You feel grinding when you hit the brakes. This typically means that the pads are worn down and you're now grinding your brake rotors - that is NOT a good sign. Get your car into our Orlando auto service center as soon as possible to avoid super costly repairs and nip the problem in the bud!
- Your car is pulling in one direction. This means you might have pads that are wearing unevenly and causing your car to drift when you hit the brakes.
- Marks on the rotors. If you're savvy enough to take a look yourself and notice circular marks or grooves on the brake rotors, then you most likely need new brake pads. This means they're worn too thin and aren't functioning properly, and you're doing damage to the rotors. Schedule Orlando brake service as soon as you can to get a replacement set of pads installed!
